Panama celebrate title in San Jose - Sep 21, 2015

Costa Rica - Panama 46-74
Panama celebrated the COCABA Championship title. They overcame Costa Rica in the Final in San Jose. Trevor Gaskins (188-G-89, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Lat Am Basketball) notched 24 points and 8 rebounds to pace the winners. Panama registered a 33:17 halftime lead. They boosted the margin at 27-point mark at the final intermission. Panama did not loosen the grip in the fourth frame and cruised to the triumph. Ruben Garces (206-C/F-73, college: Providence, agency: Agency) had 16 points and 9 rebounds for the champions. Rohel Wilson (197-F/C-89) responded with 10 points for Costa Rica.
3-4 Place
Mexico - Nicaragua 71-75
Nicaragua finished in the third position at the COCABA Championship. They beat Mexico in the consolation final in San Jose. Vansdell Thomas (179-G-86, agency: Aspire Sports) nailed 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the winners. Nicaragua eked out a 37:36 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 7-point mark at the final break. Mexico pulled closer in the fourth frame but could not avoid the loss. Bartel Lopez (212-C-89, agency: Duran International) delivered 16 points and 15 rebounds in the victory. Fernando Benitez (204-F/C-89) responded with 15 points for Mexico.

5-6 Place
Honduras - El Salvador 65-46
Honduras wrapped up their COCABA Championship campaign on a high note. They defeated El Salvador to occupy the fifth position. Christopher Flores (188-G-90, college: NJIT, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) and Alvin Cacho (189-G-82) posted 19 points each for the winners. Honduras built a 44:21 halftime lead. They extended the lead at 25-point mark at the final intermission and never looked back en route to the victory. Marco Banegas-Flores (185-G-92) chipped in 14 points for the winners. Carlos Arias (200-F/C-89) responded with 14 points for El Salvador.


Panama and Costa Rica advance into Final in San Jose - Sep 20, 2015

Panama - Mexico 110-105 2OT
Panama survived a double-overtime thriller to tame Mexico in the semifinal clash in San Jose. Trevor Gaskins (188-G-89, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Lat Am Basketball) scored 28 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the winners. Mexico recorded a 28:20 lead after the starting quarter. But Panama denied the deficit and surged ahead for a 4-point lead at the third break. Mexico however denied the deficit in the fourth frame and forced overtime. The teams traded baskets throughout the first extra period. But Panama stepped on the gas in the second overtime and managed to secure the winning outcome. Josimar Ayarza (205-F-87, college: S.Mississippi, agency: Agency) delivered 20 points, while Jonathan King (198-G/F-90) added 16 points in the win. Jesus Gonzalez (195-F-86) responded with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for Mexico. Fernando Benitez (204-F/C-89) had 30 points in the loss.

Costa Rica - Nicaragua 51-43
Costa Rica held off Nicaragua and advance into the COCABA Championship Final. Carlos Quesada (198-C-85) scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the hosts. Costa Rica posted a 25:18 halftime lead. But Nicaragua narrowed the deficit and eventually tied things up at 32 heading into the fourth quarter. But Costa Rica held their opponents to just 10 points in the final frame and raced to the victory. Daniel Simmons (194-F/C-80) delivered 12 points for the home team. Bartel Lopez (212-C-89, agency: Duran International) responded with 19 points and 14 rebounds for Nicaragua. Vansdell Thomas (179-G-86, agency: Aspire Sports) had 9 points in the loss.

Group A
Honduras - Guatemala 95-56
Honduras clinched the third position in Group A. They knocked down Guatemala in the final game of the preliminary round. Christopher Flores (188-G-90, college: NJIT, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) tossed in 30 points to pace the winners. Pedro Salazar (205-C-72, agency: Globo Sport) added 13 points in the victory. Honduras grabbed a 25:13 lead after the opening frame. Guatemala pulled within 5 points at halftime. But Honduras triggered a strong 56:22 second half rally to ice the victory. Miguel Gonzalez (189-G/F-90) responded with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Guatemala.

Costa Rica - Mexico 63-61
Costa Rica held off Mexico to finish the preliminary round undefeated. Kay Martinez (198-G-84, college: Jackson St.) posted 29 points to pace the hosts to the third straight victory in Group A. Costa Rica posted a 31:23 halftime lead. They boosted the margin at 9-point mark at the final intermission. Mexico tried to bounce back with a strong rally in the fourth period but Costa Rica hung on to snatch the victory. Carlos Quesada (198-C-85) delivered 16 points for the winners. Fernando Benitez (204-F/C-89) responded with 19 points for Mexico.

Group B
El Salvador - Panama 73-76
Panama held off El Salvador for the top position in Group B. Trevor Gaskins (188-G-89, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Lat Am Basketball) scored 22 points to lead the winners. Panama built a 30:27 halftime lead. They extended the gap at 7-point mark heading into the fourth frame. El Salvador narrowed the deficit in the fourth frame but could not avoid the defeat. Josimar Ayarza (205-F-87, college: S.Mississippi, agency: Agency) provided 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Ronnie Aguilar (216-C-87, college: CS Dominguez H., agency: Agency) responded with 20 points for El Salvador.

Mexico - Guatemala 89-64
Mexico eased to the second straight victory in Group A. They rallied past Guatemala. Fernando Benitez (204-F/C-89) and Jesus Gonzalez (195-F-86) tossed in 17 points each for the winners. Mexico registered a 39:17 halftime lead. Guatemala unleashed 28 points in the third term to pull within 18 points. However Mexico dropped 26 points in the final stanza and raced to the victory. David Estrada posted 12 points for the winners. Miguel Gonzalez (189-G/F-90) responded with 18 points for Guatemala.

Costa Rica - Honduras 65-54
Costa Rica knocked down Honduras to account for the second victory in San Jose. Kay Martinez (198-G-84, college: Jackson St.) nailed 29 points to pace the hosts. Costa Rica ensured a 39:27 halftime lead. They kept Honduras at bay throughout the second half and marched to the victory. Carlos Quesada delivered 14 points in the winning effort. Pedro Salazar (205-C-72, agency: Globo Sport) responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds for Honduras. Christopher Flores (188-G-90, college: NJIT, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) chipped in 13 points in the loss.

Panama got to the winning start of their COCABA Championship campaign. They knocked down Nicaragua for 1-0 record in Group B. Josimar Ayarza (205-F-87, college: S.Mississippi, agency: Agency) stepped up with 25 points to lead the winners. Panama recorded a 48:32 halftime lead. They never looked back in the second half cruising to the victory. Jonathan King (198-G/F-90) tossed in 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the winners. Vansdell Thomas (179-G-86, agency: Aspire Sports) and Carlos Gonzalez (177-PG-80) responded with 11 points each for Nicaragua.

Carlos Quesada added 14 points and 8 rebounds in the victory. Costa Rica jumped to a 23:11 lead after ten minutes. Costa Rica followed with a 21:10 run in the third term to gain a 19-point lead. They never looked back afterwards marching to the victory. Miguel Gonzalez (189-G/F-90) responded with double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds for Guatemala.

Honduras - Mexico 77-82
Mexico got to the winning start of their COCABA Championship campaign. They knocked down Honduras in Group A. Jesus Gonzalez (195-F-86) stepped up with 24 points to pace the winners. Mexico sank 26 points to take a 4-point lead after the opening quarter. But Honduras denied the deficit and surged ahead for a 2-point lead at the final break. Mexico however went on a 24:17 run in the fourth frame and sealed the victory. Fernando Benitez (204-F/C-89) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Christopher Flores (188-G-90, college: NJIT, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) responded with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for Honduras.

Nicaragua - El Salvador 75-66
Nicaragua held off El Salvador in the opening game in Group B. Carlos Gonzalez (177-PG-80) stepped up with 34 points to lead the winners. Nicaragua trailed by as many as 4 points at halftime 31:35. But Nicaragua ignited a 22:14 rally in the third term to take a 4-point lead. They dropped 22 points in the fourth frame and sealed the win. Vansdell Thomas (179-G-86, agency: Aspire Sports) accounted for 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. James Valladares (205-F/C-89, college: New Hampshire) responded with 18 points and 10 boards in the loss.
