At the end
of the COCABA Championship, the local player
Miguel Banos (186-F-84) was unanimously named the MVP of the competition. Banos was
also the third best scorer with 16,6 ppg. The MVP ballot runner-up was Mexican
Romel Beck (202-G/F-82, college:
UNLV), who
was also the COCABA 2007 Top Scorer with 19,4 ppg

Team Mexico
ended at the first place undefeated the COCABA Championship 2007, with another
impressive demonstration of strength over home team El Salvador. The final score
was 134-55, and seven Mexican players ended the game in double digits.
Romel Beck (202-G/F-82, college:
UNLV) was
the best in Game 5, with 24 pts, 3 rebounds and 1 steal, and, for sure, was one
of the best players in all the COCABA Tournment.

Team Mexico
ended undefeated the 2007 edition of the COCABA Championship, largely defeating
the home team El Salvador in Day 5 . The final score was 134-55, and the top
guns in Mexico were
Anthony Lever-Pedroza (191-G-79, agency:
Edge Sports, college:
Oregon) and
Romel Beck (202-G/F-82, college:
UNLV), with
22 and 24 points, respectively. The only player to end in double digits In the
home team was
Miguel Banos (186-F/C-84), with 11. The other team that advances to Centrobasket is
Costa Rica, winner in the last day over Honduras 79-61, while the surprise of

In the
fourth game of the COCABA Championship, played yesterday afternoon in San
Salvador, Team Mexico overwhelmed Honduras 145-43, led by
Omar Quintero (183-G-81, agency:
Paris Global Sports, college:
S.Nazarene)
with 21 pts,
Victor Mariscal (198-F-72) with 20 and
Romel Beck (202-G/F-82, college:
UNLV) with
19. William Waterhouse (200-C-75) was the best in Honduras, with 12. The last
game of the competition is scheduled for tonight vs. home team El Salvador, and
the superior size and experience of Mexico allow to forecast another easy win.
Day 3 recap: Only Mexico is undefeated

Afer that
Mexico humiliated Guatemala 125-69, Costa Rica defeated Nicaragua, and El
Salvador needed of an overtime to prevail 79-72 over Honduras. The regular time,
in fact, ended 66-66, and the veterans
Miguel Banos (186-F/C-84) and
Arturo Mata (183-G/F-71) led the home team in the overtime. Banos was the game top
scorer with 16, Mata added 12 pts, and
Schacun Malave (200-F/C-79, college:
New York Tech)
scored 13 pts and was very important under the boards.
William Waterhouse (200-C-75) led Honduras with 15 pts,

difference in size and playing level: in Day 3 of COCABA Championsip, Team
Mexico easily beat Guatemala 125-69. With 15 points each,

Jesus Ramses Benitez (209-C-79) were the best in Mexico, with
Romel Beck (202-G/F-82, college:

Hector Hernandez (206-F-86) and

Costa Rica takes another win - Jul.

Team Costa
Rica defeated host team El Salvador in Day 2 of the COCABA Championship and
prevailed over Nicaragua 88-76 yesterday afternoon, in the first game of Day 3,
confirming its good shape. Towering
Hernol Hall (205-C-82, agency:
Sports Plus International, college:
Lon Morris JC)
was the main performer with 25 pts,
Henry Martinez (186-G/F-75) and
Franklyn Ferguson (198-C/F-77, college:
Ks Wesleyan)
added 15 points each. The "Ticos" are at the second place, and will play this
afternoon Guatemala, probably the worse team in the competition.
One win and one loss for El Salvador

After
defeating 63-59 Guatemala in Day 1 led by
Schacun Malave (200-F/C-79, college:
New York Tech)
and Miguel Banos (186-F/C-84), Team El Salvador faced an hard job vs. Costa Rica
in Day 2, and felt 65-83. Only Mexico is now undefeated, and Costa Rica showed
all its strengths and size, confirming that is the #2 ranked team, with hopes to

Team
Nicaragua started the 2007 edition of the COCABA Championship defeating Honduras
79-66, led by
Troy Watson (197-F/C-82), who scored 22 pts, and
Alvin Camacho (191-G/F-78), who added 20. Yesterday night, Team Mexico was too
much for the Nicaraguans, who felt 88-124, with
Rudy Taylor (198-F-83) and
Elijah Allen (194-F-73) being the last to surrender, after scoring 15 points each.
This afternoon, Nicaragua will meet Costa Rica in an important game.
Guatemala Falls again, but where are
its centers ? - Jul. 20, 2007
In Day 2 of
COCABA Championship, Guatemala felt again, this time to Honduras 75-62, being
outrebounded 26-20, with the only
Gerson Duarte (202-C-83) able to compete under the boards, at the end the team top
scorer with 16 points. No one can explain why NT coach
Conrado del Valle opted to leave at home two good inside players like
Juan Pablo Trigueno (200-F/C-83) and
Thomas Gillespie (204-F/C-74, agency:

Regis), and
one of the best scorers in Guatemala, like
Walter Morales (184-G-83).

struggling a lot to defeat Costa Rica in Day 1 of the competition, Team Mexico
took a clear win in the first game of Day 2, destroying Nicaragua 124-88 and
keeping the top of the table. The best performers had been

Day 1: Mexico almost shocked by Costa

Very
ambitious Costa Rica was close to make a big surprise being slightly edged by
much higher ranked Mexico 95-94 in the opener of COCABA in El Salvador.
In the second game host El Salvador beat Guatemala 63-59, in the third one
Nicaragua defeated Honduras.

COCABA Championship at the start

Starting
from tomorrow, El Salvador will host the 2007 edition of the COCABA Championship
for Senior National teams. The Tournment will run from July 18 to 22, and the
male teams competing will be Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico
and El Salvador. The female tournment will be played in the same days, and the
teams registered are Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and El Salvador. Coach
Enrique Samour made some surprising calls, adding to the El Salvador roster four
players based in USA,
Schacun Malave (200-C-79, college:
New York Tech),
George Medrano (180-G-88), Michael Meza (193-F-89) and Luis Turcios
(G-76). The other players will be
Carlos Ochoa (198-C-82),
Eduardo Garcia (185-G/F-88),
Bob Hunter (193-F-76),
Arturo Mata (183-G/F-71),
Miguel Banos (186-F/C-84),
Mario Flores (183-G-85),
Enrique Lopez (183-G/F-85) and
Jose Orellana (189-F-87). The reserve players are

Isidro Andaluz (178-G-88). It is clear that some top players haven' t been put in
the roster because they refused to attend the practice sessions scheduled by
