The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Univ.Concepcion in Quilpue on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by Los Leones 79-72. American forward Jaylen Key (203-1997, college: New Orleans) fired 31 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) for the winners. His fellow American import forward Kingsley Perkins (203, college: LSSU) chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Jerry Evans (203-1990, college: Nevada) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Los Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Univ.Concepcion will play at home against Puerto Varas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game was played in Ancud. Ancud faced Espanol. Host Ancud defeated guests from Osorno 74-65. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Stan Scott (193-1998, college: MSSU) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 9 rebounds. Franco Ordenes contributed with 11 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. U.S. Virgin Islands-American swingman Jahsean Corbett (198-2002, college: Duquesne, agency: Helping Ballers) answered with 24 points and 8 rebounds for Espanol. Ancud will play against Puerto Montt at home in the next round. Espanol will have a break next round.
The game in Puente Alto was also quite interesting. Los Leones played at the court of Puente Alto. Los Leones defeated Puente Alto 87-75 on Thursday. Sek Henry stepped up and scored 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Los Leones' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Jason Murphy responded with 9 points and 18 rebounds. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Other games of round 1 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Las Animas were defeated by Castro in a road game 77-68. Colo Colo beat Univ.Catolica at home 59-57. Puerto Varas lost to Puerto Montt on the opponent's court 78-82.
