There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game of round 13 in the Liga Nacional took place in Castro. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed CD Castro (8-5) to second ranked Universidad de Concepcion (7-6) 82-79 in the game for the second place. Universidad de Concepcion made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game, while CD Castro only scored nine points from the stripe. Americans were the main players on the court. Rakim Brown (198-91, college: Humboldt St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners and center Steven Toyloy (203-87, college: Cincinnati) chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side forward Cedric Blossom (198-94, college: Morgan St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. Universidad de Concepcion maintains second place with 7-6 record behind leader Las Animas which they share with defeated CD Castro. CD Castro lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with CD Valdivia. Universidad de Concepcion are looking forward to face league's leader Puente Alto at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. CD Castro will play against CD Puerto Varas and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Important game to mention about took place in Puerto Varas. Fifth ranked Puerto Montt (6-8) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 4th placed CD Puerto Varas (6-8) 64-61 in the fight for the fourth place. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of CD Puerto Varas. Canadian point guard Alex Johnson (178-88, college: NC State) nailed 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side and Akeem Ellis accounted for 17 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Che Bob (198-97, college: Colorado St.) came up with 17 points and 5 rebounds for CD Puerto Varas in the defeat. Puerto Montt moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CDU Catolica and CD Puerto Varas. Puerto Montt will play against Universidad Catolica (#5) in Santiago in the next round. CD Puerto Varas will play on the road against the league's second-placed CD Castro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Santiago between Quilicura and Universidad Catolica. Sixth ranked Quilicura (1-10) got a very close victory on the road over 5th ranked Universidad Catolica (6-8). Quilicura managed to escape with a 3-point win 74-71 on Sunday evening. Timothy Simmons fired 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. DJ Ursery produced 24 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Quilicura maintains sixth place with 1-10 record. It was Universidad Catolica's fourth loss in a row. They dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with CD Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. Quilicura will meet higher ranked Temuco (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Universidad Catolica will play against Puerto Montt and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Valdivia: Las Animas (#1) and Deportivo Valdivia (#2). Deportivo Valdivia was defeated at home 72-78 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Deportivo Valdivia. Worth to mention a great performance of Ricky Harris who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Las Animas (11-1) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place. Defending champion Deportivo Valdivia keeps the second position with five games lost. Las Animas' next round opponent will be Los Leones (#3) in Quilpue, which may be the game of the day. Deportivo Valdivia will play on the road against AB Ancud and hope to win that game.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Universidad de Concepcion (7-6) against sixth ranked AB Ancud (4-9) on Sunday night. Visiting Universidad de Concepcion was defeated by AB Ancud in a tough game in Ancud 80-87. Lisandro Rasio stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. AB Ancud maintains sixth place with 4-9 record. Universidad de Concepcion at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. AB Ancud will face higher ranked Deportivo Valdivia (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Universidad de Concepcion will play against the league's leader Puente Alto and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 13: Puente Alto destroyed CDU Catolica on the opponent's court 82-50. Los Leones managed to outperform Quilicura in a home game 94-76. Puerto Montt recorded a loss to CD Valdivia on the road 67-63. AB Ancud defeated Temuco on its own court 89-71. Puente Alto beat Los Leones in a road game 83-74. CD Castro won against Temuco at home 97-90.



CDU Catolica - Puente Alto 50-82

Very expected game in Santiago where 5th ranked Universidad Catolica (6-8) was crushed by first ranked Puente Alto (8-4) 82-50 on Saturday. Puente Alto outrebounded Universidad Catolica 48-27 including a 39-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international point guard Erik Carrasco (181-83) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 9 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals for the winners and American forward Corbin Jackson (198-92, college: Florida Tech) chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Worth to mention Jackson played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Four Puente Alto players scored in double figures. Puente Alto's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American Scott Cutley (196-85, college: CS Fullerton) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard DJ Ursery (193, college: Alaska-Anch.) scored 14 points. The victory was the third consecutive win for Puente Alto. They maintain first place with 8-4 record. Universidad Catolica lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. Los Leones' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
