Very significant was CD Castro's (#5) 89-80 road victory against one of their biggest challengers CD Puerto Varas. Puerto Montt - Las Animas 86-90

The game between closely ranked teams ended with second-ranked Puerto Montt's (15-13) home loss to first ranked Las Animas (21-6) 86-90 on Wednesday. Strangely Puerto Montt outrebounded Las Animas 37-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Ricky Harris (187-87, college: UMass) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 5 assists and the other American import forward Kristian Clarkson (202-84, college: Widener) who added 26 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The former international center Manny Suarez (208-93, college: Creighton) responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 13 rebounds and American Durrell Summers (196-89, college: Michigan St.) produced a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Las Animas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 21-6 record. Loser Puerto Montt dropped to the third place with 13 games lost. Las Animas will face league's leader Puente Alto at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Puerto Montt will play against Quilicura and hope to win that game.

Quilicura - Puente Alto 81-79

A very interesting game took place in Quilicura. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of top-ranked Puente Alto (20-9) to sixth ranked Quilicura (4-23) 81-79 on Wednesday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the 15-game winning streak of Puente Alto. Quilicura forced 23 Puente Alto turnovers. American center Kieston Standfield (201, college: Middle Georgia) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import forward Abiodun Adegoke (203-91, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Five Quilicura players scored in double figures. American-Nigerien swingman Tanksley Efianayi (198-94, college: UCF) replied with 30 points and Argentinian forward Nicholas Wadell (201-89) added 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Puente Alto. Quilicura maintains sixth position with 4-23 record. Puente Alto at the other side still keeps top place with nine games lost. Quilicura's next round opponent will be higher ranked Puerto Montt (#3) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Puente Alto will play against the league's leader Las Animas in Valdivia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
