Cup Round 3: Tinguiririca hands first loss to Quilicura

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Quilicura (1-1) in San Fernando on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Tinguiririca (3-0) 83-75. Tinguiririca forced 21 Quilicura turnovers. It was a good game for Derick Machado (-1996) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Matias Sepulveda (-1995) contributed with 19 points for the winners. American power forward Shannon Fowler (203, college: UWG) answered with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for Quilicura. Quilicura's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tinguiririca will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Quilicura will play at home against Manquehue and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another interesting game for Arabe de Valp. (1-1) which played on the court of Luis Matte (0-2). Arabe de Valp. won 87-79. It was a great evening for center Carlos Ahuile (193-1999) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Pedro Soares helped adding 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was forward Pablo Guaracan (-1987) with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Luis Matte's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Arabe de Valp. will play against Catolica (#4) in Santiago in the next round. Luis Matte will play on the road against Sergio Ceppi in Santiago and hopes to get finally their first victory.
A very close game took place in Osorno between Puerto Montt and Osorno. Puerto Montt (1-1) got a very close victory on the road over Osorno (0-3). Puerto Montt managed to escape with a 3-point win 68-65 on Friday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Marco Ugalde who led the winners and scored 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jorge Guzman came up with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Osorno in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Puerto Montt will meet at home Castro (#4) in the next round. Osorno will have a break next round.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: winless Liceo Curico was smashed by Manquehue on the road 93-51. Municipal C. destroyed Aleman on its own court 89-51. Ancud outscored Castro in a road game 86-63.
The most impressive performance of 3rd round was 19 points and 8 rebounds by Pablo Barraza of Ancud.

Manquehue - Liceo Curico 93-51

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Manquehue's (1-1) home victory over Liceo Curico (0-3) in Santiago 93-51 on Friday. Manquehue dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Liceo Curico's 26. They outrebounded Liceo Curico 59-23 including a 42-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Manquehue looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Fernando Schuler (190-1991) who led the winners and scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Juan Peters (-1993) accounted for 11 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Four Manquehue players scored in double figures. Forward Bastian Fuenzalida (-1997) came up with 8 points and 8 rebounds and guard Sebastian Munoz (-1990) added 12 points respectively for Liceo Curico in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Manquehue will meet Quilicura (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Liceo Curico will play against Tomas L. and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

It was an exceptional evening for international Sebastian Suarez (193-1991, college: Portland St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Pablo Barraza (184-1994) accounted for 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Vicente Guaico (-1994) came up with 12 points and Vicente Tapia (-2002) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Castro in the defeat.
