Puerto Varas - Quilicura 90-96 There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Puerto Varas (5-5) were defeated at home by ninth ranked Quilicura (5-4) 96-90 on Sunday. Quilicura looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Chris Perry (203-1994, college: LMU) had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 21 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Cuban guard Adriano Barreras (186-1989) chipped in 28 points and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international power forward Juan Fontena (196-1987) responded with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Panamanian forward Pablo Rivas (198-1994, college: NCCU) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Quilicura moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Valdivia. Puerto Varas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Quilicura will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Puerto Varas will play against Espanol O. (#5) and are hoping to win this game. Puente Alto forced 22 Puerto Montt turnovers. American forward Marquez Letcher-Ellis (203-1997, college: Nevada) had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Dennis McKinney (193-1998, college: Mt.Mercy, agency: GoEmpire Group) chipped in 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Puente Alto's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Argentinian forward Martin Chervo (200-1992) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Josh Morris (203-1993, college: UTPB) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds. Puente Alto have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Puerto Montt at the other side keeps the twelfth position with seven games lost. Puente Alto are looking forward to face higher ranked Concepcion (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Puerto Montt will play against Las Animas (#10) in Valdivia and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Top-ranked Concepcion (6-0) played at the court of 8th ranked Las Animas (4-5). Concepcion smashed Las Animas 105-83 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Las Animas. Naturalized Panamanian point guard Eugenio Luzcando (190-1995, college: Idaho St.) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Sebastian Carrasco (180-2000) chipped in 19 points and 5 assists during the contest. Four Concepcion players scored in double figures. Concepcion's coach Cipriano Nunez felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American-Dominican center Justin Satchell (203-1995, college: St.Leo) responded with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds and Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) scored 27 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Concepcion have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 6-0 record behind leader Los Leones. Las Animas at the other side dropped to the tenth place with five games lost. Concepcion are looking forward to face Puente Alto (#4) at home in the next round. Las Animas will play against Puerto Montt (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
