LNF Round 9: Luis ML is defeated by Univ.de Chile in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Santiago: Univ.de Chile (#5) and Luis ML (#7). Univ.de Chile (4-4) crushed visiting Luis ML (0-6) by 25 points 65-40. Univ.de Chile held Luis ML to an opponent 21.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.1 percent accuracy of the winners. Univ.de Chile forced 20 Luis ML turnovers. Josefa Orrego (172-2003) stepped up and scored 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners and Carolina Morales (-2003) chipped in 11 points. The best for the losing side was the former international center Daniela Alcaino (180-1992) with 11 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Univ.de Chile have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Brisas. Luis ML at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. They share the position with Larr Valdivia and Laja. Univ.de Chile is looking forward to face league's leader CDSC in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Luis ML will play against Tomas L (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Santiago: Sergio Ceppi (#2) and Brisas (#4). Sergio Ceppi (6-1) crushed visiting Brisas (4-4) by 65 points 93-28. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Brisas. The former international forward Francisca Salvatierra (173-1994) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and Katalina Garcia accounted for 11 points and 11 rebounds. Belen Carreno (-2005) came up with 7 points and 6 rebounds for Brisas in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sergio Ceppi maintains second place with 6-1 record having just 2 victories less than leader CDSC, which they share with Frontera. Brisas at the other side keep the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Univ.de Chile. Sergio Ceppi will play against Rancagua (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Brisas' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago Puente Alto.
Second ranked Gimnastico blasted bottom-ranked Llolleo (0-5) in Santiago 123-39 on Sunday evening. Llolleo is still unable to win any game. The best player for the winners was Vania Vega who had a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was Valeria Aguilera who recorded 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gimnastico (4-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Llolleo still closes the standings with five games lost. Gimnastico will meet at home New Crusaders (#4) in the next round. Llolleo will play against the league's second-placed Leones and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Quilpue were destroyed by Leones on the opponent's court 113-48. Tomas L managed to outperform Rancagua in a home game 56-44. Conce was rolled over Frontera on the road 104-25. Winless Laja was crushed by Temuco on its own court 41-102. Infinito beat Truenos in Concepcion 74-59.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists by Millaray Torres of Infinito.
