Cup Round 4 (Regular Season): Concepcion lose to Los Leones

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Concepcion (4-1) in Quilpue on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by Los Leones (5-0) 82-53. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Concepcion. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The former international forward Darrol Jones (193-1994) fired 27 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Alani Moore II (178, college: Temple) chipped in 21 points. The former international point guard Sebastian Carrasco (180-2000) produced 15 points for lost side. Concepcion's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Los Leones have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-0 record which they share with defeated Concepcion. Defending champion Concepcion still keeps top place with one game lost. They share the position with Valdivia. Los Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Concepcion will play on the road against Liceo PN in Temuco and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Talca. Fourth ranked Catolica faced their close opponent Espanol T.. Guests from Santiago (2-4) smashed host Espanol T. (0-3) 90-59. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Rodrigo Rojas (-1997) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!). Deiker Salcedo contributed with 16 points and 7 assists for the winners. Benjamin Roco replied with 20 points for Espanol T.The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Catolica went down to fifth position due to points difference. Espanol T. at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Puerto Montt. Catolica will play against higher ranked Puente Alto (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Espanol T. will play against Tinguiririca and hopes to get finally their first victory.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Valdivia. Third ranked Ancud faced one of their biggest challengers Las Animas. Guests from Ancud (3-1) defeated host Las Animas (3-2) 87-76. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Las Animas. Worth to mention a great performance of Franco Morales who helped to win the game recording 37 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her nine free throws !!!). At the losing side Cristian Amicucci responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Ancud moved-up to second place, which they share with Tinguiririca. Loser Las Animas dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Espanol O.. Ancud will meet at home Espanol O. (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Las Animas will play against Castro and hope to secure a win.

Rest of the games of round 4 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Castro was defeated by Espanol O. in Osorno 74-65. Puente Alto smashed Liceo PN at home 98-56. Winless Puerto Montt lost to Valdivia on the opponent's court 59-77.
The best stats of 4th round was 15 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists by Erik Carrasco of Valdivia.

Espanol T. - Catolica 59-90

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Talca. Fourth ranked Catolica faced their close opponent Espanol T.. Guests from Santiago (2-4) smashed host Espanol T. (0-3) 90-59. Catolica dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Espanol T.'s 24. Catolica forced 23 Espanol T. turnovers and outrebounded them 41-26 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. Catolica players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Espanol T.'s players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Rodrigo Rojas (-1997) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!). There was no surprise in Osorno where bottom-ranked Castro (0-4) was defeated by second ranked Espanol O. (3-2) 74-65 on Sunday. Espanol O. forced 20 Castro turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of DR Congolese-Canadian forward Eric Kibi (198, college: ACU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and the former international Sebastian Suarez (193-1991, college: Portland St.) who added 10 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Espanol O. players scored in double figures. Espanol O.'s coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Yahota Rasas (-1999) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds and point guard Oscar Barria (175-2003) scored 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Despite that victory Espanol O. went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Las Animas. Loser Castro still closes the standings with four games lost. Espanol O. will meet league's second-placed Ancud on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Castro will play against Las Animas (#4) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Puente Alto (3-3) smashed at home bottom-ranked Liceo PN (0-5) 98-56 on Sunday. Puente Alto dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Liceo PN's 30. They outrebounded Liceo PN 45-17 including a 33-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Puente Alto looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of center Joaquin Pino (-2000) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Raul Amar who added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Puente Alto players scored in double figures. Puente Alto's coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Pablo Campos responded with 11 points and 8 assists and swingman Jose Fuentes (197-1990) scored 6 points and 6 rebounds. Puente Alto moved-up to fourth place. Loser Liceo PN still closes the standings with five games lost. Puente Alto will meet at home Catolica (#5) in the next round.
