Cup Round 7 (Regular Season): Concepcion keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Concepcion as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Concepcion edged 4th placed Puente Alto at home 87-84. Concepcion looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Lino Saez (207-2000) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 7 rebounds. Nicolas Aguirre (-1998) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. Argentinian forward Martin Chervo (200) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for Puente Alto. Concepcion (7-1) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Ancud. Puente Alto at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Catolica. Puente Alto will play next round against Liceo PN trying to get back on the winning streak. Concepcion will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Los Leones in Quilpue.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Tinguiririca (5-2) against fifth ranked Catolica (4-4) on Friday night. Visiting Tinguiririca was defeated by Catolica in Santiago 70-55. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Tinguiririca. It was a great evening for guard Juan Dlugoszewski (-1999) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. Rodrigo Rojas helped adding 16 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side American guard RJ Smith (198-1997, college: MSSU) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Tinguiririca's coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Catolica moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Puente Alto. Tinguiririca at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. Catolica will play against Espanol T. (#6) in Talca in the next round. Tinguiririca will have a break next round.
An interesting game for Espanol O. (5-4) which hosted in Osorno 4th placed Las Animas (5-4). Third ranked Espanol O. had an easy win 91-70. It was an exceptional evening for Arnold Louis who led the winners and scored 35 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. Espanol O.'s coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cristian Amicucci came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for Las Animas in the defeat. Espanol O. maintains third place with 5-4 record having just one point less than leader Ancud, which they share with defeated Las Animas. Espanol O. will again meet Las Animas (#4) in the next round. Las Animas will have a break next round.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Ancud beat Castro on the road 93-77. Winless Puerto Montt lost to Puerto Varas on its own court 63-72. Los Leones outscored Liceo PN in Quilpue 111-51.
The most impressive performance of 7th round was 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists by Eduardo Lugo of Los Leones.

Castro - Ancud 77-93

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Ancud (7-1) beat on the road bottom-ranked Castro (0-8) 93-77 on Friday. It was an exceptional evening for the former international point guard Franco Morales (181-1992) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists. American forward Dennis McKinney (194-1998, college: Mt.Mercy, agency: GoEmpire Group) accounted for 30 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. American forward Yahuza Rasas (201-1999, college: PVAMU) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds and guard Ricardo Cardenas (173-1995) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Castro in the defeat. Four Castro players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Ancud. They maintain first place with 7-1 record, which they share with Concepcion. Castro lost their eighth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. They share the position with Liceo PN. Ancud will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Castro will play again against the league's leader Ancud (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The former international Carlos Lauler (190) accounted for 21 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Espanol O.'s coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Puerto Montt's (0-6) home loss to fifth ranked Puerto Varas (4-2) 63-72 on Saturday. Puerto Varas dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Puerto Montt's 20. They outrebounded Puerto Montt 38-19 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American forward James Beck (203, college: NM State) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. The former international center Sebastian Silva (187-1996) accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Forward Sebastian Gomez (-2000) came up with 27 points and point guard Nicolas Ulloa (170-1990) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively for Puerto Montt in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Puerto Varas. They maintain fifth place with 4-2 record. Very predictable result when first ranked Los Leones (6-1) rolled over bottom-ranked Liceo PN (0-8) in Temuco 111-51 on Saturday. Los Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Liceo PN's 26. They outrebounded Liceo PN 58-22 including a 24-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Los Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Liceo PN's players. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Ignacio Lobos (207-2001) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds. Eduardo Lugo accounted for 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Five Los Leones players scored in double figures. Guard Pablo Campos came up with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and Felipe Acuna (182-1992) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Liceo PN in the defeat. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Los Leones. Despite that victory Los Leones went down to second position due to points difference. Liceo PN lost their eighth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. They share the position with Castro. Los Leones will meet league's leader Concepcion on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Liceo PN will play against Puente Alto (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
