Cup Round 8 (Regular Season): Los Leones lose to Concepcion

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Round 8 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Los Leones (6-1). They were defeated by second ranked Concepcion (7-1) 96-82 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Los Leones. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Concepcion looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Sebastian Carrasco (180-2000) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 9 assists and international point guard Diego Silva (186) who added 20 points and 4 assists during the contest. American point guard Alani Moore II (178, college: Temple) responded with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!). Concepcion have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Ancud. Los Leones at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Ancud. Los Leones will play next round against strong Tinguiririca trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Concepcion will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Espanol O. (5-4) against fourth ranked Las Animas (5-4) on Sunday night. Visiting Espanol O. was defeated by Las Animas in a tough game in Valdivia 76-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Espanol O.. The winners were led by Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Alejandro Vergara supported him with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Even 22 points and 8 rebounds by Benjamin Amor (-1996) did not help to save the game for Espanol O.. Las Animas moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Espanol O. Las Animas will play against Puerto Varas (#5) at home in the next round. Espanol O. will play against Puerto Montt and hopes to get back on the winning track.
CUP top team - Ancud (7-1) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat seventh ranked Castro (0-8) 93-83. The best player for the winners was Franco Morales who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 7 rebounds, 15 assists and 5 steals. Ancud's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Yahuza Rasas produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) for the guests. Ancud have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record, which they share with Concepcion. Loser Castro still closes the standings with eight games lost. They share the position with Liceo PN. Ancud will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Castro will play against the league's second-placed Valdivia (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: winless Puerto Montt was destroyed by Puerto Varas on the opponent's court 113-67. Catolica managed to outperform Espanol T. in a home game 64-56. Puente Alto managed to beat Liceo PN on the road 93-76.

Puerto Varas - Puerto Montt 113-67

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Puerto Montt's (0-6) road loss to fifth ranked Puerto Varas (4-2) 67-113 on Sunday. Puerto Varas dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Puerto Montt's 32 and made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Puerto Montt 48-25 including a 40-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Puerto Varas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Puerto Montt's players. The best player for the winners was Argentinian Nahuel Martinez (188-1995) who scored 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Guard Patricio Arroyo (185) chipped in 20 points. Puerto Varas' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Johany Gallardo (191-1988) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Camilo Torres (183-1998) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Puerto Varas have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 4-2 record. Loser Puerto Montt still closes the standings with six games lost. They share the position with Espanol T.. Puerto Varas will meet higher ranked Las Animas (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Puerto Montt will play against Espanol O. in Osorno and hopes to get finally their first victory.
