Cup Round 9 (Regular Season): Los Leones keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Los Leones as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Los Leones smashed 3rd placed Tinguiririca in Quilpue 86-66. Los Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Tinguiririca's players. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Darrol Jones (193-1994) who scored 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. The former international forward Nicolas Rebolledo (-2002) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard RJ Smith (198-1997, college: MSSU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Concepcion and Ancud. Tinguiririca at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. Tinguiririca will play next round against strong Puente Alto trying to get back on the winning streak. Los Leones will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Espanol T. in Talca.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Valdivia: Valdivia (#2) and Las Animas (#5). Las Animas were defeated at home 71-84 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was a good game for the former international guard Erik Carrasco (181) who led his team to a victory with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Fabian Martinez contributed with 20 points and 7 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winners. Valdivia's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds for Las Animas. Valdivia have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-1 record behind leader Ancud. Las Animas at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Valdivia will play against league's leader Ancud on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Las Animas will play against Puerto Montt and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
