LNF Round 2 (Regular Season): CDSC rally past Gimnastico

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in LNF. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

CDSC smashed Gimnastico in Santiago 65-35. CDSC held Gimnastico to an opponent 23.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 31.9 percent accuracy of the winners. CDSC forced 28 Gimnastico turnovers and outrebounded them 44-20 including a 21-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international point guard Javiera Novion (170-1987, college: Eckerd) scored 15 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Javiera Campos (-2002) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. CDSC's coach Julia Acevedo felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Venezuelan forward Maria Quero (160-1999) responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Gimnastico will play next round against strong Sergio Ceppi trying to get back on the winning streak. CDSC will try to continue on its current victory against Puente Alto. It will be extra interesting game as Puente Alto is their local rival from Santiago.
Sportiva Ita. recorded a loss in Valparaiso. Hosts were edged by Sergio Ceppi 72-70. Forward Pia Henriquez (-2003) notched a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and Francisca Salvatierra supported her with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Even 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals by the former international forward Catalina Perez (195-1997) did not help to save the game for Sportiva Ita.. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sergio Ceppi will play against Gimnastico in Vina del Mar in the next round. Sportiva Ita. will play on the road against Leones in San Pablo to get more than just one victory in their record.
Quite upsetting was Puerto Montt's 48-point home defeat in a game versus Alemana who crushed hosts The best player for the winners was Tatiana Gomez who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds. Analia Mendez produced 8 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Alemana will meet at home Espanol in the next round. Puerto Montt will play against Espanol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 2 Univ.Concepcion won against UCSC on the opponent's court 81-65. Puente Alto lost to undefeated Leones in a home game 56-66.

UCSC - Univ.Concepcion 65-81

The game between closely ranked teams ended with UCSC's home loss to Univ.Concepcion 65-81 on Saturday. Univ.Concepcion forced 20 UCSC turnovers and outrebounded them 48-33 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was Mexican power forward Myriam Lara (188-1994) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 15 rebounds. The former international forward Barbara Cousino (178-1996) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Barbara Torres (168-2003) produced 12 points and 5 rebounds and Josefa Catalan (-2003) added 13 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Univ.Concepcion will meet at home Frontera in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. UCSC will play against Alemana in Paillaco and hope to win that game.

Puente Alto - Leones 56-66

There was a small surprise in Santiago where Leones defeated Puente Alto 66-56 on Sunday. Leones made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. Leones outrebounded Puente Alto 50-38 including 18 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was U.S. Virgin Islands guard Taylor Jones (173-1997, college: Oakland) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. Center Isabel Gonzalez (190-1998, college: Morehead St.) chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds. Cuban center Betsy Guilarte (186-2003) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and the former international forward Marisol Gamboa (178-1985) added 5 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Puente Alto's coach Alvaro Chacon rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Leones will meet at home Sportiva Ita. in the next round where they are favorite. Puente Alto's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago CDSC.

Quite upsetting was Puerto Montt's 48-point home defeat in a game versus Alemana who crushed hosts They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Puerto Montt's 30. Alemana forced 28 Puerto Montt turnovers and outrebounded them 49-37 including 18 on the offensive glass. Alemana looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Puerto Montt's players. The best player for the winners was the former international center Tatiana Gomez (192-1981) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds. Italian-Argentinian Daniela Dublo (184-1988) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Analia Mendez (180-2004) produced 8 points and 11 rebounds and Martina Gallardo (168-2003) added 15 points respectively for the hosts.
