Leones (1-1) recorded a loss in San Pablo on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Sportiva Ita. (1-1) 84-81. Sportiva Ita. forced 26 Leones turnovers. Strangely Leones outrebounded Sportiva Ita. 47-32 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Catalina Perez (195-1997) who scored 24 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. The former international point guard Paula Carrasco (161-1994) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Sportiva Ita.'s coach Gianluca Pozo used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was U.S. Virgin Islands guard Taylor Jones (173-1997, college: Oakland) who recorded 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Sportiva Ita. is looking forward to face Puente Alto (#5) in Santiago in the next round. Leones will play on the road against Gimnastico in Vina del Mar and are hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was between Espanol and Puerto Montt where Espanol (1-1) beat Puerto Montt (0-2) on the road 60-50. It was a good game for Argentinian Anahi Albornoz (-1998) who led her team to a victory with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals. Lara Lizarraga contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Center Catalina Azocar (-1997) answered with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Puerto Montt. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Espanol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Puerto Montt will play on the road against UCSC (#6) in Concepcion and hopes to get finally their first victory.
An interesting game where Frontera (#3) beat host Univ.Concepcion (#4) 63-59 on Saturday evening. It was a great evening for Josefina Viafora who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Myriam Lara with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Frontera will meet at home Alemana in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Univ.Concepcion will have a break next round.
Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Gimnastico was defeated by Sergio Ceppi in Santiago 68-66. Puente Alto lost to undefeated CDSC at home 31-66. Winless UCSC lost to undefeated Alemana on the opponent's court 72-84. Alemana managed to outperform Espanol in a home game 75-61.
