LNF Round 3 (Regular Season): Leones lose to Sportiva Ita.

LNF is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 3 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Leones (1-1) recorded a loss in San Pablo on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Sportiva Ita. (1-1) 84-81. Sportiva Ita. forced 26 Leones turnovers. Strangely Leones outrebounded Sportiva Ita. 47-32 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Catalina Perez (195-1997) who scored 24 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. The former international point guard Paula Carrasco (161-1994) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Sportiva Ita.'s coach Gianluca Pozo used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was U.S. Virgin Islands guard Taylor Jones (173-1997, college: Oakland) who recorded 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Sportiva Ita. is looking forward to face Puente Alto (#5) in Santiago in the next round. Leones will play on the road against Gimnastico in Vina del Mar and are hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was between Espanol and Puerto Montt where Espanol (1-1) beat Puerto Montt (0-2) on the road 60-50. It was a good game for Argentinian Anahi Albornoz (-1998) who led her team to a victory with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals. Lara Lizarraga contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Center Catalina Azocar (-1997) answered with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Puerto Montt. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Espanol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Puerto Montt will play on the road against UCSC (#6) in Concepcion and hopes to get finally their first victory.
An interesting game where Frontera (#3) beat host Univ.Concepcion (#4) 63-59 on Saturday evening. It was a great evening for Josefina Viafora who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Myriam Lara with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Frontera will meet at home Alemana in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Univ.Concepcion will have a break next round.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Gimnastico was defeated by Sergio Ceppi in Santiago 68-66. Puente Alto lost to undefeated CDSC at home 31-66. Winless UCSC lost to undefeated Alemana on the opponent's court 72-84. Alemana managed to outperform Espanol in a home game 75-61.

Puerto Montt - Espanol 50-60

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Gimnastico's (0-2) road loss to Sergio Ceppi (2-1) 66-68 on Saturday. It was a great evening for forward Pia Henriquez (-2003) who led her team to a victory scoring 28 points and 7 rebounds. Center Katalina Garcia (182-1994) helped adding 9 points and 13 rebounds. Sergio Ceppi's coach Roberto Ostoic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was guard Tatiana Moyano (-1982) with 18 points and 5 rebounds and forward Valentina Garay (176-2001) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Sergio Ceppi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena CDSC.

Puente Alto - CDSC 31-66

No shocking result in a game in Santiago where CDSC (2-0) smashed Puente Alto (1-2) 66-31 on Sunday. CDSC held Puente Alto to an opponent 21.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.2 percent accuracy of the winners. CDSC forced 29 Puente Alto turnovers. It was a great evening for point guard Javiera Campos (-2002) who led her team to a victory scoring 27 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals. The former international center Catalina Abuyeres (182-1997) helped adding 13 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Cuban center Betsy Guilarte (186-2003) with 6 points and 9 rebounds and the former international forward Marisol Gamboa (178-1985) scored 6 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Very expected game in Paillaco where UCSC (0-3) was defeated by Alemana (3-0) 84-72 on Saturday. Alemana dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to UCSC's 26. Alemana forced 21 UCSC turnovers. Strangely UCSC outrebounded Alemana 55-41 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for the former international center Tatiana Gomez (192-1981) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Italian-Argentinian Daniela Dublo (184-1988) helped adding 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Alemana P. players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Barbara Torres (168-2003) with 25 points and 4 assists and Betsabe Pizarro (173-2005) scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. UCSC's coach Alejandro Gyllen rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Alemana will meet Frontera in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
