31-year old American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-F-1993) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's best team CD Universidad de Concepcion and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1.
He had a double-double of 31 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Valdivia (#6, 0-1), the league's bottom-ranked team 97-87. It allowed Univ.Concepcion to consolidate first place in the Chilean league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Univ.Concepcion won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. Maxwell turned to be Univ.Concepcion's top player in his first season with the team. California State University Northridge graduate has very impressive stats this year. Maxwell is in league's top in points (2nd best: 24.5ppg), rebounds (4th best: 12.0rpg) and averages solid 73.9% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Federico Herrera (200-F/C-1993) of Sportiva Italiana Valparaiso. He is Argentinian forward in his 3rd season at Sportiva Italiana. In the last game Herrera recorded an impressive 27 points and 7 rebounds. It was enough for Sportiva Italiana to edge Univ.Catolica (0-2) by 5 points 79-74. The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. Herrera is one of the most experienced players at Sportiva Italiana and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third place about best performers goes to another Univ.Concepcion's star - forward Carlos Milano (198-PF-1985). Milano scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. He was another key player of CD Universidad de Concepcion, helping his team with a 97-87 win against Valdivia (#6, 0-1). Univ.Concepcion has a very good start of the season. But there were just 2 games played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Milano also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. Milano has a very solid season. In 2 games in Chile he scored 8.0ppg.
