Cup Round 3 (Regular Season): Puente Alto keeps a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Puente Alto smashed Sportiva Italiana at home 90-68. Puente Alto outrebounded Sportiva Italiana 48-33 including a 42-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Puente Alto looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Sportiva Italiana's players. The best player for the winners was American-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Ocasio (196-1992, college: New Haven) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Justin Strings (201-1996, college: Sacramento St.) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. Puente Alto's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Gaspar Hernandez (-1999) who recorded 29 points.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Espanol (0-1) in Osorno. Hosts were edged by Univ.Concepcion (4-0) 77-74. It was a good game for American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Evandro Arteaga contributed with 17 points for the winners. Univ.Concepcion's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Ivorian forward Mike Fofana (206-1997, college: HSU) answered with 23 points and 8 rebounds for Espanol.
A very close game took place in Talca between Univ.Catolica and Espanol. Univ.Catolica (2-2) got a very close victory on the road over Espanol (0-3). Univ.Catolica managed to escape with a 2-point win 64-62 on Saturday evening. It was a great evening for Pedro Leopoldino who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Enrico De Paula with 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Los Leones crushed Colo Colo in Quilpue 87-68. Las Animas were beaten by Ancud at home 86-91. Winless Valdivia was destroyed by Puerto Varas on the opponent's court 91-70.

Espanol O. - Univ.Concepcion 74-77

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Espanol (0-1) in Osorno. Hosts were edged by Univ.Concepcion (4-0) 77-74. Univ.Concepcion outrebounded Espanol 42-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Colo Colo - Los Leones 68-87

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Colo Colo's (1-2) home loss to Los Leones (3-1) 68-87 on Saturday. Los Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Jerry Evans (203-1990, college: Nevada) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points and 7 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). The former international forward Ignacio Carrion (201-1993) helped adding 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American power forward Domont'a Wright (202-1999, college: Cleveland St.) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and guard Francisco Atala (-1994) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Colo Colo players scored in double figures. Colo Colo's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win.

No shocking result in a game in Valdivia where Ancud (1-1) defeated Las Animas (1-2) 91-86 on Saturday. Ancud made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Ancud outrebounded Las Animas 42-26 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ancud shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. It was a great evening for American forward Derrick Woods (203-1996, college: St.Peter's, agency: SLN) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. The former international Alejandro Vergara (196-1995) helped adding 13 points and 7 assists. The best for the losing side was Gabriel Diaz (-1999) with 16 points and 9 assists and the former international forward Gianncarlo Caraboni (-1990) scored 19 points and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Las Animas' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.

Rather expected game when Valdivia (0-3) was rolled over on the road by Puerto Varas (2-1) 91-70 on Saturday. Puerto Varas dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Valdivia's 24. They outrebounded Valdivia 42-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. Puerto Varas looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Josh Morris (203-1993, college: UTPB) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Andrew Corum (201-1997, college: Virginia St.) helped adding 20 points and 10 rebounds. Five Puerto Varas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Erik Carrasco (181-1983) with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Rashun Williams (201-1999, college: UT Tyler) scored 17 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
