Sixth-ranked Colo Colo (9-11) made lots of trouble for first ranked Univ.Concepcion (18-3) in Santiago on Sunday. The visitors from Concepcion managed to secure only three-point victory 82-79. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import Zoran Talley (198-1994, college: Iowa St.) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. American swingman Dennis McKinney (194-1998, college: Mt.Mercy) produced 22 points and 5 assists for the hosts. Colo Colo's coach Ernesto Menchaca rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Univ.Concepcion have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 18-3 record. Colo Colo at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 11 games lost. Univ.Concepcion are looking forward to face Valdivia (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Colo Colo will play against the league's second-placed Los Leones (#2) in Quilpue and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Espanol (15-6) against eighth ranked Puente Alto (10-11) on Sunday night. Visiting Espanol was defeated by Puente Alto in Puente Alto 83-66. American-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Ocasio (196-1992, college: New Haven) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 9 rebounds. Justin Strings contributed with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Yahota Rasas (201-1999, college: PVAMU) replied with 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for Espanol. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Puente Alto moved-up to sixth place. Espanol at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. Puente Alto will play against bottom-ranked Espanol (#12) in Talca in the next round where they are favorite. Espanol will play on the road against Ancud (#8) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Defending champion maintains second position with 17-2 record behind leader Univ.Concepcion. Loser Ancud dropped to the eighth place with 12 games lost. Los Leones will meet at home Colo Colo (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Ancud will play against Espanol and hope to secure a win.

The former international Mohunir Zerene (187-1994) responded with 24 points and 9 rebounds and Vicente Guaico (-1994) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Four Espanol players scored in double figures. Las Animas maintains ninth position with 8-13 record. Espanol lost thirteenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 20 lost games. Las Animas will meet at home higher ranked Puerto Varas (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Espanol will play against Puente Alto (#6) and hope to win that game.

Worth to mention a great performance of American AJ Cheeseman (202-1998, college: UMES) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds and the former international guard Erik Carrasco (181-1983) who added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four Valdivia players scored in double figures. Valdivia's coach Ricardo Araujo used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American Devante Wallace (196-1992, college: High Point, agency: BIG) responded with 32 points and 6 rebounds and Argentinian power forward Federico Herrera (200-1993) scored 21 points and 8 rebounds.
