LNB Round 1 (Regular Season): Valdivia topple Univ.Concepcion

The Regular Season in LNB just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Valdivia defeated Univ.Concepcion at home 85-70. American Lenell Henry (203-1998, college: Alcorn St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and Argentinian guard Guido Mariani (194-1994, agency: BIG) chipped in 27 points and 5 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). At the losing side American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Univ.Concepcion will play next round against strong Puerto Varas trying to get back on the winning streak. Valdivia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Espanol on the court of Puente Alto. Visitors were defeated by Puente Alto 65-60. American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) nailed 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and Jonnivius Smith accounted for 7 points and 14 rebounds. Argentinian center Ramiro Rattero (199-2000, agency: BIG) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds for Espanol in the defeat. Puente Alto will play against Los Leones in Quilpue in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Espanol will play at home against Boston College and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Quite upsetting was Boston College's home defeat in a game versus Univ.Catolica 85-72. Tristan Harper fired 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. T.J. Robinson produced 19 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Univ.Catolica's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago Colo Colo.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: Los Leones destroyed Colo Colo on the opponent's court 85-54. Puerto Varas managed to outperform Las Animas in a home game 92-89. Ancud lost to Valdivia on the road 80-87.




Puente Alto - Espanol T. 65-60

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Espanol on the court of Puente Alto. Visitors were defeated by Puente Alto 65-60. Puente Alto outrebounded Espanol 44-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. Espanol will play at home against Boston College and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Quite upsetting was Boston College's home defeat in a game versus Univ.Catolica 85-72. Univ.Catolica made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. Colo Colo - Los Leones 54-85

But Colo Colo was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Quilpue 85-54 on Thursday night. Los Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Colo Colo's 20. Los Leones forced 19 Colo Colo turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. American forward Kiandre Gaddy (198-2001, college: Tarleton St., agency: BIG) fired 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Dutch center Terrence Bieshaar (208-1997, agency: BIG) chipped in 16 points. Four Los Leones players scored in double figures. The former international Antonio Pinedo (195-1994) produced 11 points and naturalized Argentinian center Franco Alippi (201-1998) added 7 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Los Leones will meet at home Puente Alto in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Colo Colo's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Univ.Catolica.

Puerto Varas used a home court advantage and edged the opponent from Valdivia 92-89 on Thursday night. Puerto Varas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Joshua Morris (203-1993, college: UTPB) fired 25 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Aitor Pickett (203-1999) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. American power forward Rashad Hassan (203-1989, college: SSU) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and the former international Sebastian Suarez (193-1991, college: Portland St.) added 28 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Puerto Varas and four Las Animas players scored in double figures. Puerto Varas will meet Univ.Concepcion on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Las Animas will play against Espanol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ancud's coach Sebastian Luis Figueredo rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Valdivia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ancud will play against Espanol in Osorno and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
