Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Santiago: Colo Colo and Univ.Catolica. Univ.Catolica was defeated at home 64-77 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Naturalized Argentinian center Franco Alippi (201-1998) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds. Antonio Pinedo contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Forward Vicente Damianovic (-1997) replied with 19 points for Univ.Catolica. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Colo Colo will play against Puente Alto at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Univ.Catolica will play against Espanol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of Espanol against Las Animas on Sunday night. Visiting Espanol was defeated by Las Animas in a tough game in Valdivia 78-87. Fabian Martinez scored 26 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Carlos Lauler responded with 18 points. Las Animas' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Valdivia Valdivia.
