LNB Round 6 (Regular Season): Puerto Varas beat Las Animas by two after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 6 in the LNB took place in Valdivia. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of second-best Las Animas (3-3) to fourth ranked Puerto Varas (3-3) 80-78 in the game for the second place. Puerto Varas forced 21 Las Animas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for the former international power forward Aitor Pickett (203-1999) who led his team to a victory with 30 points and 5 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American forward Joshua Morris (203-1993, college: UTPB) contributed with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals for the winners. American power forward Rashad Hassan (203-1989, college: SSU) replied with 22 points and 9 rebounds for Las Animas. Puerto Varas moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Las Animas. Puerto Varas is looking forward to face league's leader Univ.Concepcion at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Las Animas will play against Espanol in Osorno and are hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Talca. Fifth ranked Espanol (2-4) saved a 2-point victory at home edging one of their biggest challengers Puente Alto (2-4) 73-71 in the fight for the fourth place. scored 18 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Claudio Cabrera chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Puente Alto's coach Alvaro Chacon rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Espanol moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Puente Alto. Espanol will play against Boston College (#6) in Santiago in the next round. Puente Alto will play at home against the league's leader Los Leones and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Santiago: Univ.Catolica (#3) and Boston College (#6). Univ.Catolica (4-2) smashed visiting Boston College (0-6) by 24 points 87-63. Tristan Harper notched 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort. Even 19 points and 5 rebounds by TJ Robinson did not help to save the game for Boston College. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Univ.Catolica moved-up to second place, which they share with Colo Colo. Newly promoted Boston College still closes the standings with six games lost. Univ.Catolica's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Colo Colo.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 6: Espanol beat Ancud on the road 79-72. Univ.Concepcion won against Valdivia on its own court 94-89. Colo Colo lost to undefeated Los Leones in Quilpue 73-99.
The most impressive performance of 6th round was 19 points and 11 rebounds by Kiandre Gaddy of Los Leones.




Espanol T. - Puente Alto 73-71

Important game to mention about took place in Talca. Even 19 points and 5 rebounds by American forward TJ Robinson (203-1989, college: LBSU) did not help to save the game for Boston College. His fellow American import forward Anthony Duncan II (201-2000, college: Southeastern) added 11 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Espanol's (3-3) road victory over 6th ranked Ancud (1-5) 79-72 on Sunday. Espanol outrebounded Ancud 47-31 including 36 on the defensive glass. Cuban forward Yasmany Fundora (201-1992) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and supported him with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Four Espanol O. players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds by American guard Troy Cracknell (193-1999, college: Augusta, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Ancud. Patricio Arroyo added 8 points and 4 assists. Ancud's coach Sebastian Luis Figueredo tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Espanol moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Ancud at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Espanol will meet at home Las Animas (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Ancud will play against the league's second-placed Valdivia and hope to win that game.

Rather expected game when one of their biggest challengers Valdivia (3-3) lost on the road to first ranked Univ.Concepcion (5-1) 94-89 on Sunday. Univ.Concepcion made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) notched a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the other American import point guard Emmanuel Payton-Clottey (183-1997, college: FSU) supported him with 32 points and 5 rebounds. Payton-Clottey is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Univ.Concepcion's coach Nicolas Altalef used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds by American Lenell Henry (203-1998, college: Alcorn St.) did not help to save the game for Valdivia. Argentinian guard Guido Mariani (194-1994, agency: BIG) added 15 points and 5 rebounds. Five Valdivia players scored in double figures. Univ.Concepcion have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 5-1 record. Valdivia at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Los Leones have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record. Colo Colo at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Univ.Catolica. Los Leones will meet Puente Alto (#4) on the road in the next round.
