LNB Round 8 (Regular Season): Univ.Concepcion lose to Ancud

Top ranked Univ.Concepcion (6-2) recorded its second loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Ancud (3-5) 77-63. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Univ.Concepcion. The best player for the winners was American guard Troy Cracknell (193-1999, college: Augusta, agency: Interperformances) who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. chipped in 7 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) produced 21 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ancud moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Univ.Concepcion will play at home against the league's second-placed Espanol (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Puente Alto. Fourth ranked Puente Alto (3-5) saved a 1-point victory at home edging second-ranked Colo Colo (4-3) 83-82 on Saturday evening. American center Jonnivius Smith (206-2001, college: UTSA) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 20 rebounds. Rakim Brown contributed with 24 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Uruguayan guard Diego Garcia (186-1992) replied with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Colo Colo. Colo Colo's coach Ernesto Menchaca rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Puente Alto maintains fourth position with 3-5 record, which they share with 3 other teams. Colo Colo at the other side dropped to the third place with three games lost. Puente Alto will play against league's second-placed Univ.Catolica in Santiago in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Colo Colo's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago Boston College.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Valdivia: Valdivia (#4) and Las Animas (#3). Valdivia (4-4) won against visiting Las Animas (3-5) 81-75. Worth to mention a great performance of Guido Mariani who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Emanual Shepherd responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Valdivia moved-up to third place. Las Animas lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Valdivia will meet league's second-placed Espanol in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Las Animas will play against Ancud and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Important game to mention about took place in Puente Alto. Fourth ranked Puente Alto (3-5) saved a 1-point victory at home edging second-ranked Colo Colo (4-3) 83-82 on Saturday evening. Puente Alto made 31-of-41 charity shots (75.6 percent) during the game, while Colo Colo only scored fifteen points from the stripe. They outrebounded Colo Colo 42-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Colo Colo was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Espanol outrebounded Puerto Varas 41-27 including 31 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of who helped to win the game recording 7 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and who added 13 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. American forward Joshua Morris (203-1993, college: UTPB) responded with 9 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Marcelo Perez (196-1999, college: Southern Miss) scored 7 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Espanol have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 5-3 record behind leader Los Leones. Loser Puerto Varas dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Univ.Catolica dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Espanol T.'s 28. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Tristan Harper (198-2000, college: Langston) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds and Brazilian center Pedro Leopoldino (206-1998) who added 13 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Univ.Catolica's coach Bernardo Marphy used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds and Colombian power forward Santiago Serna (203-2001) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Los Leones outrebounded Boston College 48-37 including 17 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Los Leones made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Kiandre Gaddy (198-2001, college: Tarleton St., agency: BIG) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and who added 14 points during the contest.
