The most exciting game of round 9 in the LNB took place in Valdivia. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-best Puerto Varas (5-4) to first ranked Las Animas (8-1) 91-88 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Puerto Varas. Las Animas forced 21 Puerto Varas turnovers. 27 personal fouls committed by Puerto Varas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American forward Raekwon Horton (198-2002, college: UTSA) who scored 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. His fellow American import forward Ahmir Langlais (206-2001, college: Tennessee St.) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Ocasio (196-1992, college: New Haven) who recorded 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Puerto Varas' coach Damian Gamarra rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Las Animas maintains first place with 8-1 record. Puerto Varas at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost.
Fifth-ranked Univ.Catolica (2-6) made lots of trouble for third ranked Los Leones (7-2) in Quilpue. Los Leones managed to secure only three-point victory 76-73. However their fans expected easier game. It was a good game for the former international forward Ignacio Carrion (201-1993) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Blake Marquardt contributed with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American-Senegalese guard Abdoulaye Thiam (193-2000, college: High Point) answered with 26 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for Univ.Catolica. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Los Leones have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Univ.Catolica lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. They share it with Castro.

Stephen Maxwell stepped up and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. The best for the losing side was Bradlee Haskell with 20 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Univ.Concepcion have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-0 record. Loser Boston College dropped to the fifth position with six games lost.
