DPB Round 6: Cafeteros beat Cimarrones by three after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 6 in the DPB took place in Armenia. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Cimarrones (3-2) to fourth ranked Cafeteros (5-2) 69-66 on Wednesday evening. It was a good game for center Cristian Arboleda (205-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 18 rebounds. American forward Akeem Ellis (198-90, college: Coppin St., agency: BIG) contributed with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American Dominique Morrison (198-89, college: ORU, agency: Haylett Sports) replied with 21 points and 8 rebounds for Cimarrones. Cafeteros maintains fourth position with 5-2 record. Newly promoted Cimarrones dropped to the seventh place with two games lost. Cafeteros are looking forward to face Corsarios (#11) in Cartagena in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cimarrones will play on the road against the league's leader Storm (#1) in San Andres Island and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
An interesting game for Storm (6-0) which played road game in Cali against 3rd ranked Team Cali (4-2). Top-ranked Storm managed to get a 4-point victory 86-82. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Team Cali. Argentinian swingman Federico Mariani (190-92) scored 27 points to lead the charge for the winners and Mariano Fierro chipped in 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Dominican power forward Jeromy Rodriguez (201-96, college: ETSU) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds. Undefeated Storm have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record. Team Cali at the other side dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Motilones. Storm will play against Cimarrones (#7) in Quibdo-Choco in the next round where they are favorite. Team Cali will play on the road against Motilones in Cucuta and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Piratas' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after six consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Corsarios (1-6) 80-79 on Wednesday. James Harrison notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) by Anton Gill did not help to save the game for Corsarios. Piratas maintains ninth position with 1-6 record, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Corsarios. It was Corsarios' sixth loss in a row. Piratas will meet Bucaros (#9) in the next round. Corsarios will play against Cafeteros and hope to win that game.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 6: Tigrillos smashed Sabios on the road 93-67. Condores lost to Motilones on its own court 70-82. Titanes outscored Bucaros in Barranquilla 88-61.



Sabios - Tigrillos 67-93

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Tigrillos (5-1) crushed 8th ranked Sabios (2-5) in Manizales 93-67 on Tuesday. Tigrillos dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Sabios' 26. Tigrillos forced 24 Sabios turnovers and outrebounded them 49-36 including 17 on the offensive glass. American-U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Georgio Milligan (188-90, college: F&M) notched a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the effort and American forward Jacob Calloway (202-96, college: SUU) supported him with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Even 32 points and 7 rebounds by Lysander Ameen did not help to save the game for Sabios. Dionte Montrez added 5 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tigrillos have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 5-1 record behind leader Carrib.Storm. Sabios lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with five games lost. Tigrillos will meet Condores (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sabios will play against the league's second-placed Titanes in Barranquilla and hope to secure a win.

Condores - Motilones 70-82

Very expected game when 11th ranked Condores (1-6) lost to seventh ranked Motilones (4-2) in Cundinamarca 70-82 on Tuesday. Motilones forced 22 Condores turnovers. Strangely Condores outrebounded Motilones 44-31 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Yeison Yan notched 33 points (!!!), 6 assists and 4 steals (on 14-of-17 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American forward Miles Bowman Jr (201-93, college: High Point, agency: BIG) supported him with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Even 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists by forward Emmil Williams (188-91) did not help to save the game for Condores. Dominican power forward Brayan Martinez (203-91) added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Motilones have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Team Cali. Condores lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Motilones will meet at home Team Cali (#6) in the next round. Condores will play against Tigrillos and hope to win that game.

Argentinian forward Selem Safar (191-87) notched 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and the former international point guard Hansel Atencia (178-97, college: Master's) supported him with 16 points. Even 21 points and 8 rebounds by American Martavian Payne (188, college: Lindenwood) did not help to save the game for Bucaros. His fellow American import power forward DeMarco Owens (203-96, college: Montevallo) added 8 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Titanes have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Bucaros lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Titanes will meet at home Sabios (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Bucaros will play against Piratas and hope to win that game.

Piratas' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after six consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Corsarios (1-6) 80-79 on Wednesday. They outrebounded Corsarios 48-34 including 19 on the offensive glass. American forward James Harrison (203-96, college: ETSU) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Yildon Mendoza (206-96, college: Angelo St.) supported him with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. Even 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) by American guard Anton Gill (191-94, college: Nebraska, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Corsarios. His fellow American import forward William Green (201-91, college: Stetson) added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Piratas maintains ninth position with 1-6 record, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Corsarios. It was Corsarios' sixth loss in a row.
