DPB Round 8: Storm is defeated by Motilones

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in San Andres Island between second ranked Storm (6-2) and sixth ranked Motilones (6-2) on Sunday night. Storm was defeated by Motilones at home 65-51. Motilones forced 22 Storm turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Motilones made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican center Luis Santos (203-94, college: St.Louis) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and Dominican Yeison Colome (190-96) who added 23 points and 4 steals during the contest. Motilones' coach Hernan Laginestra used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian swingman Federico Mariani (190-92) responded with 15 points. Motilones have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Cafeteros and Carrib.Storm. Motilones is looking forward to face Tigrillos (#6) in Medellin in the next round. Storm will play on the road against Corsarios (#12) in Cartagena and is hoping to win this game.
Tigrillos (#4) were upset in Medellin by seventh ranked Team Cali 79-74. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Tigrillos. The winners were led by Dominican power forward Jeromy Rodriguez (201-96, college: ETSU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds and Rich Polanco supported him with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) by American-U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Georgio Milligan (188-90, college: F&M) did not help to save the game for Tigrillos. Team Cali maintains seventh position with 5-3 record. Tigrillos at the other side dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Cimarrones. Team Cali will play against league's leader Titanes in Barranquilla in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Tigrillos will play on the road against Motilones (#3) in Cucuta and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Piratas managed to get a second victory on Saturday night. This time they won against eighth-ranked Sabios in Manizales 79-75. The best player for the winners was James Harrison who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. Devin Harris produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Piratas (2-6) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Sabios. Sabios lost fifth consecutive game. Piratas will meet at home Condores (#11) in the next round. Sabios will play against Cafeteros and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: Titanes destroyed Condores on the opponent's court 86-40. Cafeteros managed to outperform Bucaros in a home game 54-45. Corsarios recorded a loss to Cimarrones on the road 81-73.



Sabios - Piratas 75-79

Bottom-ranked Piratas managed to get a second victory on Saturday night. This time they won against eighth-ranked Sabios in Manizales 79-75. They outrebounded Sabios 58-44 including 17 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Piratas made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward James Harrison (203-96, college: ETSU) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. The former international guard Yildon Mendoza (206-96, college: Angelo St.) chipped in 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Four Piratas players scored in double figures. American guard Devin Harris (195-95, college: Jacksonville) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and Lysander Ameen added 25 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Piratas (2-6) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Sabios. Sabios lost fifth consecutive game. Piratas will meet at home Condores (#11) in the next round. Sabios will play against Cafeteros and hope to secure a win.

Very expected game in Cundinamarca where 10th ranked Condores (1-7) were crushed by second ranked Titanes (7-1) 86-40 on Saturday. Titanes held Condores to an opponent 18.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.2 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Condores 57-44 including a 43-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Titanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Titanes made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Soren De Luque (196-98) who scored 7 points and 14 rebounds. Panamanian Ernesto Oglivie (203-89) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Dominican power forward Brayan Martinez (203-91) produced 9 points and 8 rebounds and Nigerian-American power forward Dixon Ogwo (202-95, college: MACU) added 3 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Titanes have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Condores lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the tenth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Bucaros and Corsarios. Titanes will meet Team Cali (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Condores will play against Piratas in Bogota and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The best player for the winners was American Joel Kindred (193-91, college: St.Augustine) who scored 19 points. Center Cristian Arboleda (205-92) chipped in 1 points and 14 rebounds. American power forward DeMarco Owens (203-96, college: Montevallo) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import Martavian Payne (188, college: Lindenwood) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cafeteros have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Carrib.Storm and Motilones. Loser Bucaros dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Condores and Corsarios. Cafeteros will meet Sabios (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bucaros will play against Cimarrones and hope to win that game.

The other American import power forward Charles Rhodes (203-85, college: MSU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Four Cimarrones players scored in double figures. Cimarrones' coach let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American point guard Ryan Roland (178, college: LeMoyne) produced 21 points and 6 assists and naturalized Venezuelan forward Yorbis Altamar (195-99) added 13 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Cimarrones moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Tigrillos. Corsarios lost seventh consecutive game. Corsarios at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the bottom position with seven games lost. They share it with Condores and Bucaros.
