Santiago League Round 8: CDP lose their first game against CPN- April 10, 2021

CPN - CDP 100-85 The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of CDP (4-1) against third ranked CPN on Friday night. CPN were defeated by third ranked CPN (4-2) 100-85. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of CDP. CPN made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. CPN had a 37-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Victor Liz (193-86, agency: BMS Sport Agency) who helped to win the game recording 28 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and Ronald Tineo who added 19 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four CPN players scored in double figures. Naturalized Puerto Rican forward Jose Rodriguez (201-92, college: Texas Southern) responded with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Adris De Leon (180-84, college: EWU) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CPN have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 4-2 record having just one point less than leader CDP. CDP at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. They share the position with Cupes. CPN will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. CDP's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Sameji. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to fourth ranked GUG (3-3) 122-117. GUG made 21-of-23 charity shots (91.3 percent) during the game, while Sameji only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Sameji 36-10 including a 25-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for GUG especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. The winners were led by Frandy Martinez who scored that evening 25 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Adris Rodriguez (202-82) supported him with 24 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four GUG players scored in double figures. GUG's coach Manuel Liranzo used entire bench in such tough game. Even 23 points and 7 assists by Filiberto Rodriguez did not help to save the game for Sameji. Power forward Brayan Martinez (203-91) added 12 points and 5 rebounds for GUG. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 3-3 record. Sameji at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. GUG will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
