LNB Round 2: Caneros defeat Indios in the closest game of the week

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in LNB. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Seventh-ranked Indios gave a tough game to Caneros in La Romana on Tuesday. Caneros managed to secure only one-point victory 67-66. However their fans expected much easier game. Jaison Colome (190-96) scored 26 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized Spanish center Jhonatan Araujo (208-96) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Naturalized Spanish forward Edward Santana (203-80) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Caneros are looking forward to face Huracanes in Puerto Plata in the next round. Indios will play on the road against Soles in Santo Domingo and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Santiago. host Metros defeated Huracanes 106-94. Center Eloy Vargas (211-88, college: Kentucky, agency: Duran International) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and Brandone Francis supported him with 24 points. Even a double-double of 12 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists by American forward William Green (201-91, college: Stetson) did not help to save the game for Huracanes. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Metros will play against Leones in Santo Domingo in the next round. Huracanes will play at home against Caneros and hope to get back on the winning track.
The game in San Cristobal was also quite interesting. Metros played at the court of Titanes. Metros managed to secure a 9-point victory 95-86 on Friday. The best player for the winners was Eloy Vargas who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Winston Shepard produced 16 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Titanes' coach Jose Cabrera rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Metros will meet at home Leones in the next round. Titanes will play against Reales and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Soles lost to Huracanes on the opponent's court 80-86. Caneros managed to outperform Soles in a home game 92-78. Leones managed to beat Reales on the road 89-75. Indios were defeated by Reales on its own court 76-82. Titanes were beaten by Soles in Santo Domingo 89-84. Leones lost to undefeated Caneros at home 70-76.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 17 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists by Juan Guerrero of Leones.



Caneros - Indios 67-66

Huracanes - Soles 86-80

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Soles' road loss to Huracanes 80-86 on Tuesday. Huracanes dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Soles' 40. The best player for the winners was American forward William Green (201-91, college: Stetson) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Leandro Cabrera (190-88) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Five Huracanes players scored in double figures. American Nigel Jones (201-90, college: Talladega) produced 25 points and 7 rebounds and Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Huracanes will meet at home Caneros in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Soles will play against Indios and hope to secure a win.

Rather predictable result in La Romana where Caneros defeated Soles 92-78 on Thursday. Caneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: FSU) who scored 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The other American import Hollis Thompson (203-91, college: Georgetown, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Caneros players scored in double figures. Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) produced 13 points and 5 rebounds and American Malik Pope (208-96, college: SDSU) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Caneros will meet Huracanes in the next round. Soles will play against Indios and hope to secure a win.

The game in San Cristobal was also quite interesting. Metros played at the court of Titanes. Metros managed to secure a 9-point victory 95-86 on Friday. The best player for the winners was center Eloy Vargas (211-88, college: Kentucky, agency: Duran International) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Brandone Francis (196-94, college: Texas Tech) chipped in 17 points. American forward Winston Shepard (203-93, college: SDSU, agency: Slash Sports) produced 16 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Richard Bautista (187-97) added 12 points, 9 assists and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Titanes' coach Jose Cabrera rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Metros will meet at home Leones in the next round. Titanes will play against Reales and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Not a big story in a game in La Vega where Reales were defeated by Leones 89-75 on Friday. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Juan Guerrero (205-93) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds. Naturalized American Eddy Polanco (190-94, college: SE Louisiana) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Nigerian-American George Williams (198-90, college: WBU) produced 14 points and American forward Raphiael Putney (207-90, college: UMass) added 7 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones will meet Metros in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Reales will play against Titanes in San Cristobal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
