LNB Round 8 of Regular Season

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 8 in LNB took place in San Cristobal where guest Metros (#1) beat muchlower ranked Titanes (#6) by 6 points 106-100 on Wednesday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Metros looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Juan Guerrero (203-1993) who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Jhery Matos (196-1996, college: Charlotte) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. point guard Richard Bautista (185-1997) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Metros maintains first position with 6-4 record. Defending champion Titanes dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. Metros are looking forward to face league's second-placed Reales in La Vega in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Titanes will play on the road against Caneros in La Romana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Caneros (5-4) against fourth ranked Reales (5-4) on Wednesday night. Visiting Caneros were defeated by Reales in La Vega 96-81. American power forward Charles Mitchell (203-1993, college: Georgia Tech) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. DeVondre Perry contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American power forward Torren Jones (206-1994, college: William Penn) replied with 19 points and 7 rebounds for Caneros. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Reales have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Caneros. Reales will play against league's leader Metros in Santiago in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Caneros will play at home against Titanes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Indios (4-4) against seventh ranked Leones (4-4) on Friday night. Host Indios were crushed by Leones in San Francisco 99-79. Worth to mention a great performance of Eloy Vargas who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds. Luis Rodriguez responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Indios. Leones will meet at home Marineros (#7) in the next round. Indios will play against Soles in Santo Domingo and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 8 bottom-ranked Soles defeated Marineros in Santo Domingo 90-82.

Titanes - Metros 100-106

Worth to mention a great performance of center Eloy Vargas (211-1988, college: Kentucky, agency: BIG) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds and American swingman Trahson Burrell (201-1992, college: Memphis) who added 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Panamanian guard Luis Rodriguez (198-1999, college: UNLV) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Luismal Ferreiras (200-2003) scored 16 points and 6 steals. Five Leones and four Indios players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. There was an upset in Puerto Plata where one of their biggest challengers Marineros (4-5) were defeated by bottom-ranked Soles (3-6) 90-82 on Friday. Worth to mention a great performance of Jamaican guard London Johnson (190-2004) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Jean Quezada (206-2000) who added 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Soles players scored in double figures. Swingman Jonatan Bello (195-2001) responded with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Sydney Curry (203-2000, college: GCU, agency: JCK Sports Group) scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Soles maintains eighth position with 3-6 record. Marineros lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with five games lost. Soles will meet at home higher ranked Indios (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Marineros will play against Leones in Santo Domingo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
