The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Metros (7-5) in Santo Domingo on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by eighth ranked Soles (5-7) 92-86. Soles dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Metros' 36. Dimas Carrasco scored 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Luis Martinez (196-2000) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Juan Guerrero (203-1993) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Soles moved-up to seventh place. Metros at the other side still keep top position with five games lost. Soles are looking forward to face higher ranked Reales (#5) in La Vega in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Metros will have a break next round.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Marineros (6-6) against sixth ranked Titanes (6-6) on Friday night. Host Marineros were defeated by Titanes in a tough game in Puerto Plata 83-87. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Marineros. Swingman Jassel Perez (195-2001) notched 24 points to lead the effort and Chad Brown supported him with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by forward Rich Polanco (203-1997, college: S.Dakota) did not help to save the game for Marineros. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Marineros. Titanes will play against bottom-ranked Leones (#8) in Santo Domingo in the next round where they are favorite. Marineros will have a break next round.
The game between Top Four teams took place in La Vega. Their biggest opponent host Reales (5-5) lost to third ranked Marineros (6-6) 104-91. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Reales. Sydney Curry fired a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Taz Sherman produced 20 points and 7 assists for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Marineros maintains third position with 6-6 record behind leader Metros, which they share with Titanes. Loser Reales dropped to the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with Indios. Marineros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Reales will play against Soles (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
There were no shocking results in the other games in round 10: Indios won against Titanes on the opponent's court 84-79. Metros managed to outperform Leones in a home game 110-106. Bottom-ranked Soles recorded a loss to Caneros on the road 86-81.
