USA, Canada, Brazil and Puerto Rico reach semifinals in Valdivia- July 22, 2016
Group AArgentina - Dominican Republic 79-75Argentina claimed the first victory at the tournament. They wrapped up the preliminary round campaign with a narrow win over Dominican Republic. Facundo Corvalan (188-G-98) delivered 22 points and 10 assists for the winners. Argentina secured a 39:32 halftime lead. Dominican Republic sank 32 points in the third term to pull ahead. But Argentina responded with a 21:11 rally in the fourth stanza to snatch the victory. Lautaro Berra (208-C/F-98) accounted for 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Jose Perez (201-G-98) responded with 21 points for Dominican Republic. Brazil - Canada 58-74 Canada clinched the top position in Group A. They beat Brazil to finish at 3-0 record on top of the ladder. O'Shae Brissett (203-SF-98) finished with 19 points to lead the winners. Brazil jumped to a 31:26 halftime lead. Canada picked up the tempo in the third term. They went on a 29:15 rally in the period to spur ahead. The North American side wrapped up the game on a 19:12 run to seal the win. Nickeil Alexander-Walker (195-G-98) accounted for 14 points in the victory. Michael Uchendu (206-F/C-98) responded with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Brazil. Group BChile - USA 50-70The USA rallied to the third victory in Group B. They overcame hosting Chile to stay undefeated. Kevin Huerter (198-G/F-98) posted 14 points in the winning effort. The USA claimed a 30:27 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 10-point mark at the final intermission. The USA followed with a 20:10 run in the fourth term to ice the victory. Markelle Fultz (195-SG-98) tossed in 11 points in the win. Ignacio Arroyo (185-G-00) responded with 14 points for Chile. U.S. Virgin Islands - Puerto Rico 61-85 Puerto Rico outgunned US Virgin Islands for the second win in Group B. Ethan Thompson (193-G-99) finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. US Virgin Islands accumulated a 19:14 lead ten minutes into the game. Puerto Rico turned things around in the second quarter. They eked out a 35:31 halftime lead. Puerto Rico sank 50 points in the second half and marched to the victory. Jhivan Jackson (182-G-98) tossed in 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the winners. Malcolm Farrington (195-G-99) responded with 17 points for US Virgin Islands. |
