Dominican Republic - USA 48-116
USA marched past Dominican Republic to ensure the first win at the championship. USA led from start to finish. They accumulated a 59-20 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a comfortable win. Kel'el Ware (213-C-2004) posted 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Brandon Garrison (206-C/F-2004) added 15 points in the win. Fernando Osorio (190-SF-2004) chipped in 11 points for Dominican Republic.

Argentina - Brazil 55-60
Brazil outlasted Argentina to open win count at the tournament. Brazil grabbed a comfortable 35-24 halftime advantage. They extended the lead at 16-point mark at the final break. Argentina responded with a 20-9 run in the fourth frame but could not avoid the loss. Reynan Santos (192-G-2004) and Eduardo Bersch (188-G-2005) chipped in 14 points each for the winning side. Nicolas Stenta (200-SG-2004) answered with 14 points for Argentina.

Ecuador - Puerto Rico 64-85
Puerto Rico cruised past Ecuador in the opening game in Mexico. They dominated from start to finish. Puerto Rico accumulated a comfortable 45-26 halftime lead. They dropped 21 points in the fourth stanza and raced to a narrow win at the end. Yaniel Rivera (190-SG-2004) posted 24 points, while Alejandro Aviles (206-C-2006) had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Puerto Rico. Janer Arcila (172-G-2004) answered with 22 points for Ecuador.

Mexico - Canada 75-83
Canada clinched the first win in Group A. They rallies past hosting Mexico in the opener. Vasean Allette (188-G-2004) came up with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the North American team. Elijah Fisher (198-G/F-2004) connected for 11 points in the win. Canada registered a 35-25 halftime lead. They sank 48 points in the second half and rallied to the win. Victor Valdes (196-F-2004) and Santiago Camacho (193-G-2004) had 16 points each for Mexico.
