Liga Metropolitana Round 9: Coeindeguasa beat Club Force by two after a very close game

This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Club Force (4-3) to sixth ranked Coeindeguasa (2-6) 60-58 on Friday evening. Coeindeguasa outrebounded Club Force 45-29 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for David Salguero who led his team to a victory with 9 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Selvin Hidalgo (-3) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Coeindeguasa's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward David Sequeira (183-98) answered with 28 points for Club Force. Coeindeguasa maintains sixth place with 2-6 record. Club Force lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Coeindeguasa are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Monjitas (#7) in the next round. Club Force will play against the league's second-placed Olmeca and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Point guard David Monterroso (180-79) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Luis Lopez chipped in 15 points and 14 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Carlos Gonzalez with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Halcones have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-1 record. Monjitas at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Halcones will play against Villa Nueva (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Monjitas will play against Coeindeguasa (#6) and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 9 Forza was beaten by Olmeca on the road 89-85.
The most impressive performance of 9th round was 40 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds by David Goddard of Forza.

Halcones - Monjitas 87-36

They outrebounded Monjitas 45-31 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Olmeca - Forza 89-85

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Olmeca (5-2) beat at home 5th ranked Forza (4-4) 89-85. Center Carlos Florian (-93) stepped up and scored 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Edwin Ruiz chipped in 15 points and 13 rebounds. Four Olmeca players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was naturalized American guard David Goddard (185-89) with 40 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and Walter Gasparico (-89) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 16 rebounds. Olmeca moved-up to second place, which they share with Villa Nueva. Forza at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Olmeca will play against Club Force (#4) in Guatemala City in the next round. Forza will have a break next round.
