Seventh-ranked Pat City (0-5) made lots of trouble for first ranked USAC (5-1) in Guatemala on Wednesday. USAC managed to secure only one-point victory 82-81. However their fans expected much easier game. USAC dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Pat City's 32. The best player for the winners was forward Victor Sosa (190-1988) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds. point guard Marcelo Arriola (168-1998) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. USAC's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Myson Lowe (178-2001, college: Converse) who recorded 33 points (!!!). USAC maintains first position with 5-1 record. Pat City at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. USAC are looking forward to face league's second-placed Solola on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pat City's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Guatemala PSN.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Guatemala: PSN (#5) and Forza (#3). PSN (3-3) smashed visiting Forza (3-3) by 16 points 85-69. It was a good game for Cesar Catalan (190-2007) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Pedro Armas contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. PSN's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. point guard David Monterroso (180-1979) replied with 20 points and 6 rebounds for Forza. PSN moved-up to third place, which they share with Leones and Forza. PSN's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Guatemala to the arena Pat City.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Leones (3-3) against fourth ranked Solola (3-2) on Monday night. Host Leones were crushed by Solola in Guatemala 89-60. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Marcus Faison scored 24 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Luke Garrison with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Solola moved-up to second place. Loser Leones dropped to the third position with three games lost. They share it with Forza and PSN. Solola will meet at home league's leader USAC in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leones' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Guatemala to the arena Forza.
