The most exciting game of round 9 in the CIBACOPA took place in Los Mochis. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (9-8) to second ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (11-6) 91-90 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Halcones de Ciudad Obregon. Pioneros Los Mochis made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Halcones de Ciudad Obregon turnovers. It was a good game for American swingman Wayne Runnels (198-1989, college: Creighton) who saved his team from a defeat with 30 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Swiss point guard Jordan Stevens (182-1994, college: Midwestern St.) contributed with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Pioneros Los Mochis' coach Guillermo Vecchio used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Tony Farmer (201-1994, college: Lee JC) answered with 21 points and 6 rebounds for Halcones de Ciudad Obregon. Pioneros Los Mochis' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon maintains fourth place with 9-8 record. Pioneros Los Mochis at the other side keep the second position with six games lost. They share it with Hermosillo. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play against league's leader Astros in Guadalajara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Karim Rodriguez nailed 18 points and 7 assists for the winning side. Marvin Cairo came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for Tijuana Zonkeys in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Astros have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-5 record. Tijuana Zonkeys lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. Astros will meet at home Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#4) in the next round. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 9: Hermosillo beat Culiacan on the road 86-74. Guaymas won against Mazatlan on its own court 78-69. Hermosillo managed to outperform Culiacan in a road game 108-91. Guaymas managed to beat Mazatlan at home 96-84.
The most impressive performance of 9th round was 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by Dylan Smith of Guaymas.

Guard Jimond Ivey (196-1996, college: Akron) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and guard Terrence Drisdom (196-1992, college: CPP) accounted for 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Guard Hameed Ali (188-1993, college: TAMUCC) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and power forward Tony Criswell (205-1991, college: Missouri) added 25 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Caballeros de Culiacan in the defeat.
