LSB Round 12: Brumas beat Leones MGA by two after a very close game- August 29, 2022

Rivas - Caribbean Coast 96-114 No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Caribbean Coast (5-7) beat on the road bottom-ranked Rivas (1-9) 114-96 on Saturday. Caribbean Coast looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by Luis Lopez Martinez who scored that evening 41 points (!!!), 5 assists and 4 steals and American guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997) supported him with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Even 20 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists by American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) did not help to save the game for Rivas. The former international guard Armando Martinez (190-1988) added 21 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Caribbean Coast maintains sixth position with 5-7 record. Loser Rivas stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Jaguares outscored guests from Chinandega 109-64. Jaguares dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Occidentales' 52. Jaguares forced 32 Occidentales turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Occidentales' players. The winners were led by American Joel Kindred (193-1991, college: St.Augustine) who scored that evening 21 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) supported him with 15 points and 7 assists. Even a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds by Mauro Guerrero did not help to save the game for Occidentales. Guard Deikel Sanchez added 10 points and 5 rebounds. Five Jaguares and four Occidentales players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Jaguares have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-1 record having just three points less than leader Real Esteli. Loser Occidentales keep the ninth place with ten games lost. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. UNI Basket forced 21 Leon turnovers. Strangely Leon outrebounded UNI Basket 60-31 including a 39-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) who scored that evening 30 points and 4 steals and the former international guard Vansdell Thomas (185-1986) supported him with 16 points and 10 rebounds. UNI Basket's coach Luis Morales used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds by American power forward Zacarry Douglas (203-1995, college: NCCU) did not help to save the game for Leon. American-Panamanian Adalberto Rojas (200-1986) added 17 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Leon players scored in double figures. UNI Basket have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 7-4 record having six points less than leader Real Esteli. Loser Leon keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. They share the position with Indigenas. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Leones MGA (6-5) to fifth ranked Brumas (6-5) 68-66 in the game for the fourth place. Brumas forced 21 Leones MGA turnovers. It was a good game for Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) who led his team to a victory with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Dominican center Jose Familia (201-1998) contributed with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Brumas players scored in double figures. American forward Josmel Martinez (198, college: Broward CC) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and center Hans Perez added 17 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Leones MGA. Brumas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Leones MGA. This time they crushed ninth ranked Occidentales (2-10) in Chinandega 95-73. Real Esteli forced 22 Occidentales turnovers and outrebounded them 57-39 including a 26-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. Real Esteli players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Occidentales' players. Worth to mention a quality performance of Puerto Rican guard Ismael Cruz (190-2001, college: Indian Hills) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international power forward Jensen Campbell (198-1998) who added 14 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Real Esteli's coach David Rosario felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) with 24 points and 6 rebounds and guard Deikel Sanchez produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 17 rebounds. Real Esteli have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-0 record. Occidentales at the other side keep the ninth place with ten games lost.
