LSBF Round 3: Leonas are upset by UNI

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game between Leonas (1-4) and UNI (2-3) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Leonas were defeated by UNI on the road 56-40. UNI forced 36 Leonas turnovers and had a 26-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Jamaican swingman Antoinette Bannister (178-1993, college: ECU) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 9 steals. Forward Jahzury Anderson (-2006) chipped in 16 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Leisha Hodgson (180-2007) who recorded 6 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UNI are looking forward to face Real Esteli in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leonas will play against Tipitapa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was a good game for American swingman DAsia Chambers (182-1992, college: Slippery Rock) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Linda Patterson contributed with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Jamaican swingman Antoinette Bannister (178-1993, college: ECU) answered with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) for UNI. Jaguares will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UNI will play against Real Esteli and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Real Esteli faced Leonas. Host Real Esteli (3-1) smashed guests from (1-4) 99-35. It was a great evening for Nelly Rapalo who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was Jocelyn Taylor with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Esteli will meet UNI (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Leonas will play against Tipitapa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 3 bottom-ranked Tipitapa lost to undefeated Jaguares in Managua 73-80.
The best stats of 3rd round was 24 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists by Jessica Fairweather of Jaguares.

Jaguares faced UNI. Guests from Managua (5-0) defeated host UNI (2-3) 70-56. Jaguares dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to UNI's 20. Jaguares forced 24 UNI turnovers and outrebounded them 47-36 including 33 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for American swingman DAsia Chambers (182-1992, college: Slippery Rock) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Center Linda Patterson contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Jamaican swingman Antoinette Bannister (178-1993, college: ECU) answered with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) and Sharen Sambola (185-2006) added 7 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for UNI. Real Esteli faced Leonas. Host Real Esteli (3-1) smashed guests from (1-4) 99-35. Real Esteli held Leonas to an opponent 14.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Real Esteli forced 36 Leonas turnovers and outrebounded them 60-42 including 35 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Leonas' players. It was a great evening for Honduran forward Nelly Rapalo (173-1999) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals. American guard Janae Barnes (183-1995, college: Johnson CCC) helped adding 19 points and 10 rebounds. Four Real Esteli players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Jocelyn Taylor (183-1997, college: SEMO) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and forward Harlen Reyes (-1992) scored 4 points and 6 rebounds. There was no surprise in Managua where Tipitapa (1-4) was defeated by Jaguares (5-0) 80-73 on Friday. Jaguares made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for American swingman Jessica Fairweather (180-1990, college: Queens, NY) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Her fellow American import swingman DAsia Chambers (182-1992, college: Slippery Rock) helped adding 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Shannen Peralta (-2003) with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Clenia Salazar (-1987) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Five Tipitapa players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jaguares will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tipitapa will play against Leonas (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
