LSB Round 12: Caribbean Coast lose to Leones

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Caribbean Coast (7-3) in Managua on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by Leones (8-2) 98-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Caribbean Coast. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Caribbean Coast's 36. They outrebounded Caribbean Coast 47-28 including a 36-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Kaleb Hunter (193-1998, college: UNCG) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and the other American import guard Augustus Stone (193-1997, college: St.Thomas, FL) who added 23 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was swingman Jorge Gonzalez (198-1995) with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Caribbean Coast at the other side dropped to the third place with three games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Esteli. Seventh ranked Jaguares (4-5) saved a 1-point derby victory on the road edging 4th ranked Real Esteli (6-3) 116-115 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Real Esteli. The winners were led by Puerto Rican power forward Carlos Lopez-Sosa (209-1990, college: UNLV) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and Joel Kindred supported him with 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Even 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists by the former international swingman Jared Ruiz (188-1992) did not help to save the game for Real Esteli. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Jaguares moved-up to sixth place, which they share with UNI Basket. Real Esteli at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Brumas.

At the other side the best for losing team was Zekiah Owens who recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Rivas (1-8) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Tigres. Loser Indigenas keep the eighth position with seven games lost.




Real Esteli - Jaguares 115-116

Important game to mention about took place in Esteli. Seventh ranked Jaguares (4-5) saved a 1-point derby victory on the road edging 4th ranked Real Esteli (6-3) 116-115 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Real Esteli. Jaguares made 26-of-33 charity shots (78.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Real Esteli turnovers. Real Esteli was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Puerto Rican power forward Carlos Lopez-Sosa (209-1990, college: UNLV) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and American Joel Kindred (193-1991, college: St.Augustine) supported him with 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Rivas - Indigenas 91-82

Rivas has finally registered their first victory this season after eight consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Indigenas (2-7) 91-82 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican guard Eliel Gonzalez (188-1995, college: NC A&T) who scored 28 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. American Rashad Jackson (191, college: Portland) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Canadian swingman Zekiah Owens (197-1998, college: AIC) who recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and American guard Tylan Dean (185-1999, college: Rogers St.) added 22 points and 6 steals respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories.
