We bring you last week's top performances from Panamanians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international forward
Akil Mitchell (206-92, college:
Virginia, currently plays in Israel). He could not help
M.Rishon (11-13) in their last game. Despite Mitchell's very good performance M.Rishon lost
99-106 on the road to the higher-ranked (#6) Maccabi Haifa.
He had a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 10 rebounds. Mitchell also added 3 assists and 3 steals in 32 minutes on the court.
It was M.Rishon's third consecutive loss in a row.
The Regular Season already ended.
It's Mitchell's first season with the team.
He has relatively good stats this year: 15.0ppg, 8.7rpg, 2.3apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 60.8%(149-245), 3FGP: 28.6% in 24 games he played so far.
Mitchell is a naturalized American.
He is currently a member of the Panamanian senior national team. Strangely Mitchell has never played in Panama.
#2. Second place goes to an international forward
Tony Bishop (201-89, college:
Texas St., currently plays in Romania). He led
Pitesti to a victory against the league leader Cluj Napoca (3-0)
83-74 in the Romanian Liga Nationala last Monday.
Bishop recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and 7 steals.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BCM U FC Arges Pitesti (2-1) is placed second in the Liga Nationala.
The Regular Season already ended.
This season Bishop has relatively solid stats: 11.4ppg, 6.1rpg, 2.1apg, 1.9spg, 2FGP: 51.0%, 3FGP: 28.8% and FT: 79.2%.
Ex-Correcaminos de Colon player is in the roster of the Panamanian senior national team.
#3. The Panamanian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center
Javier Carter (203-91, agency:
Slash Sports, college:
USA, currently plays in Japan). He was not able to help
Akita Northern Happinets (28-28) in their last game. Despite Carter's very good performance the seventh-placed Akita Northern Happinets (28-28) were badly defeated
93-75 in Tokyo by the higher-ranked (#6) Toyota Alvark in the East group.
He was the top scorer with 21 points. Carter also added 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 31 minutes.
It was Akita Northern Happinets' third consecutive loss in a row.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Carter has reliable stats this year: 10.3ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.6apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 51.1%, 3FGP: 33.1% and FT: 68.8% in 45 games.
He is a naturalized American.
Carter is also a member of the Panamanian senior national team. He used to play for Caballos de Cocle Aguadulce in Panamanian league.
#4. An experienced power forward
Jamaal Levy (206-83, college:
Wake Forest, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to secure a victory for
Dep Viedma (9-3) in their game against Lanus (6-6) in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division).
Levy scored 9 points, had 8 rebounds, passed 4 assists and added 2 blocks.
But Dep Viedma was defeated
88-79 in Buenos Aires by the much lower-ranked Lanus (#8) in the Conferencia Sur.
They ended the series of five consecutive victories.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
Levy's overall stats this season are: 8.4ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.6apg.
He is also Panamanian national team player.
#5. International shooting guard
Daniel Giron (192-89, currently plays in Mexico) contributed to
Soles' victory against the league leader Dorados (11-1)
124-112 in the Mexican LBE (third division) last Wednesday.
Giron recorded 7 points in 24 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Soles de Ojinagais placed first in the LBE.
Giron's stats this year are: 10.8ppg, 2.8rpg and 1.9apg in 13 games.
He plays currently for the Panamanian national team.
