LPB Round 11: Derby game ends with Dragones' defeat of Atletico

LPB is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 11 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Panama City: Dragones (#5) and Atletico (#3). Dragones (5-4) won against visiting Atletico (6-3) 82-71. Forward Pablo Rivas (198-94, college: NCCU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds. Josimar Blenman (200-89, college: Globe Tech) contributed with 12 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Jonathan King (193-90, college: ACU) answered with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Atletico. Newly promoted Dragones maintains fifth place with 5-4 record. Atletico at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Dragones are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Toros (#7) in David in the next round. Atletico will play at home against Caballos (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
LPB top team - Correcaminos (8-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Toros (0-10) in Colon 68-47. It was a great evening for center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Adriano Barreras helped adding 19 points and 5 assists. Colombian center John Hernandez (207-84) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Correcaminos maintains first place with 8-2 record. Toros at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost. Correcaminos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toros will play on the road against Dragones (#5) in Panama City and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 11 Caballos were beaten by Universitarios on the road 76-71.
The most impressive performance of 11th round was 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by Carlos Rodriguez of Caballos.



Dragones - Atletico Nacional 82-71

Dragones are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Toros (#7) in David in the next round. Atletico will play at home against Caballos (#6) and is hoping to win this game.

Correcaminos - Toros 68-47

LPB top team - Correcaminos (8-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Toros (0-10) in Colon 68-47. Correcaminos dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Toros' 28. It was a great evening for center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Cuban guard Adriano Barreras (186-89) helped adding 19 points and 5 assists. Four Correcaminos players scored in double figures. Colombian center John Hernandez (207-84) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and Oscar Zephyrine (190-0) scored 9 points. Universitarios - Caballos 76-71

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Halcones (7-2) beat 6th ranked Caballos (2-8) in Panama City 76-71. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Halcones made 28-of-37 charity shots (75.7 percent) during the game. Caballos were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward Troy Jones (201-92, college: TAMUK) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized Chilean guard Eugenio Luzcando (187-95, college: Idaho St.) helped adding 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Halcones players scored in double figures. Venezuelan center Carlos Rodriguez (206-89) responded with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and naturalized American Adalberto Rojas (200-86) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Halcones have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-2 record behind leader Correcaminos. Defending champion Caballos keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Halcones' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Panama City to the arena Panteras.
