LPB Round 4: Halcones edge Lobos by two points

The most exciting game of round 4 in the LPB took place in Panama City. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Lobos (3-3) to fourth ranked Halcones (3-4) 87-85 on Wednesday evening. Halcones outrebounded Lobos 50-35 including a 38-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Grant Alejandro (199-1993) fired 30 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Bryan Waithe (188-1994, college: Lindenwood) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Halcones' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Costa Rican swingman Daniel Shedden (191-1996, college: MSUB) produced 24 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Halcones maintains fourth position with 3-4 record. Newly promoted Lobos keep the third place with three games lost. Halcones' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Panama City Atletico.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Panama City: Atletico (#1) and Halcones (#6). Halcones were defeated at home 70-83 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Worth to mention a great performance of Jonathan King (193-1990, college: ACU) who helped to win the game recording 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Aaron Gedeon contributed with 9 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Brandon Franklin (191-1993, college: Pacific Union) replied with 15 points and 6 rebounds for Halcones. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Atletico (7-0) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 7 victories in a row. Halcones lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with six games lost. Atletico will play against league's second-placed Caballos in Aguadulce in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Halcones will play against Lobos (#3) to get more than just one victory in their record.

Centinelas' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Michael Hicks responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Newly promoted Centinelas maintains fifth position with 2-5 record. Caballos at the other side keep the second place with two games lost. Centinelas will meet at home higher ranked Lobos (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Caballos will play against the league's leader Atletico in Panama City and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

At the losing side center Jesus Lombardo (201-2000) responded with 24 points and 9 rebounds and Costa Rican Victor Arias (197-1995) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Manuel Barnes (187-1998) who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Ezequiel Bell (202-1999) who added 11 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. Five Caballos players scored in double figures. At the losing side Grant Alejandro (199-1993) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds and the former international center Miguel Gotti (203-1990, college: W.Nebraska) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Halcones' coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Caballos maintains second position with 4-2 record having four points less than leader Atletico Nacional.
