Metropolitan League Round 12: Olimpia beats Sol de Amer. in a derby game

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Asuncion: Olimpia (#2) and Sol de Amer. (#4). Olimpia (5-4) won against visiting Sol de Amer. (5-4) 67-54. Olimpia looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Colombian forward Mabel Martinez (180-1986) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Paloma Niz (175-1999) chipped in 12 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Olimpia's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Gabriela Bernal (-2007) who recorded 7 points and 21 rebounds. Olimpia maintains second position with 5-4 record having just three points less than leader Felix Perez, which they share with defeated Sol de Amer. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Libertad. It was a good game for the former international Marta Peralta (171-1994) who led her team to a victory with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Sofia Villasboa contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. International point guard Maria Perez (165-1999) replied with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Libertad. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Felix Perez have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-1 record. Libertad at the other side dropped to the fourth place with five games lost.
