LNB Round 5 (Second Stage): Colonias defeat San Jose in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 5 in the LNB took place in Asuncion. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked San Jose (12-2) to third ranked Colonias (12-4) 89-87 on Thursday evening. 28 personal fouls committed by San Jose helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Venezuelan Eduardo Rios (198-1988) nailed 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Giuliano Girett accounted for 12 points and 6 rebounds. Kal Godans came up with 15 points and 9 rebounds for Campo Alto in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ciudad N. have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 7-8 record. Newly promoted Campo Alto keeps the fifth position with eight games lost.

Felix Perez was crushed at home by 22 points 84-106 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The best player for the winners was Jeremiah Wood who scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Nicolas Burgos produced a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Olimpia K. have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-0 record. Felix Perez lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with seven games lost. In the last game of round 5 Amambay destroyed San Alfonso on the opponent's court 102-62.

San Alfonso - Amambay 62-102

Rather expected game when 8th ranked San Alfonso (4-12) was crushed at home by sixth ranked Amambay (8-6) 102-62 on Friday. Amambay dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to San Alfonso's 30. Amambay forced 20 San Alfonso turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 38 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by San Alfonso's players. The best player for the winners was Brazilian guard Osmar Ventura (190-2004) who scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized Brazilian Edegar Alvarenga chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Amambay players scored in double figures. Amambay's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Silvio Moura produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and Benjamin Arce added 17 points respectively for the hosts. Amambay have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Amambay maintains sixth place with 8-6 record. San Alfonso at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost.
