Brandon Knight gets MVP of the Week award for Puerto Rican BSN (by Hoops Agents)- May 6, 2023
The 31-year old guard had the game-high 50 points adding three assists for Quebradillas in his team's victory, helping them to beat Arecibo (#3, 10-8) 113-102. It allowed Quebradillas to consolidate first place in the Puerto Rican BSN. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Quebradillas has a very solid 13-4 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Knight had a remarkable 87.5% from 2-point range and got seven three-pointers out of 13 attempts. He just recently signed at Quebradillas, being already a very valuable addition to the team. University of Kentucky graduate has very impressive stats this year. Knight is league's best scorer averaging so far 24.9ppg. Knight is in league's top in assists (9th best: 5.1apg) and averages solid 55.6% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was young American guard Chaundee Brown Jr. (196-G-1998) of Mayaguez. Brown Jr. impressed basketball fans with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Of course Mayaguez cruised to a 99-87 relatively comfortable win over slightly lower-ranked Manati (#6, 5-14). Mayaguez's 4th position in Group A has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-10 record. Brown Jr. is one of the most experienced players at Mayaguez and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. The third best performed player last week was American Sheldon Mac (196-G-1992, agency: Slash Sports) of Manati (#6). Mac showcased his all-around game by recording 28 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the last week. Despite Mac's great performance Manati lost 87-99 to slightly higher-ranked Mayaguez (#4, 8-10). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Manati can only dream about fighting for top spots in Group A. They have rather bad season and 5-14 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Mac he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Mac has a very solid season. In 5 games in Puerto Rico he scored 21.2ppg. Other top performing players last week: 4. Gary Browne (185-PG-1993) of Guaynabo - 15 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists 5. Christopher Ortiz (203-PF-1993) of Manati - 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists 6. DeMarcus Cousins (211-C/F-1990) of Guaynabo - 21 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists 7. Victor Rudd (206-PF-1991) of Carolina - 23 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists 8. Elijah Holman (208-C-1989) of Fajardo - 14 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Walter Hodge (183-PG-1986) of Arecibo - 22 points and 5 assists 10. Aaron Harrison (198-SF-1994) of Mayaguez - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
