Argentina U17 - Uruguay U17 63:50 Argentinean U17 National Team claimed the South American Championship
title for the fourth straight time. They defeated hosting Uruguay in the Final
game yesterday to lift up the trophy. Both Argentina and Uruguay thus qualified
to the Fiba Americas U18 Championship.
Argentina entered the game confidently and eased to a 17:12 lead after ten
minutes. But Uruguay were not about to give up that easily. They limited the
visitors to 7 points in the second quarter to accumulate a 26:24 advantage at
halftime. Argentina used the major break to sober up and struck back. They
tipped the second half with an 11:2 run to regain the lead. Argentina took over
and drove to a 7-point lead after thirty minutes of action. Uruguay tried hard
but could not match superb Argentina.
Juan Giaveno (-92) provided 17 points to lead the charge.
Carlos Paredes (-92) added 10 points in the winning effort.
Diego Garcia (180-G-92) responded with 18 points for Uruguay. Mathias
Calfani finished with 10 points in defeat.
Argentina were slightly better on the boards 30:27 and shot solid 45% from
beyond the arc.
Brazil U17 - Venezuela U17 107:62
Brazil clinched the third position in the South American U17 Championship in
Trinidad. They overwhelmed Venezuela in the consolation final yesterday. The
stakes were high in the encounter as the teams fought for the spot in Fiba
Americas U18 Championship. Brazil outgunned their opponents and booked the place
in the tournament.
Brazil led from start to finish. They toppled Venezuela 27:16 in the starting
frame and continued to mount pressure in the second term. The scoreboard read
44:29 at halftime as Brazil coasted. Brazil never slowed down in the second
half. They accounted for 31 points in the third frame to gain a 32-point lead
before the fourth term. The teams cruised to the final buzzer, as the outcome
was pretty clear at this point.
Felipe Taddei (-92) came up with 23 points to pace Brazil. Lucas Amarante
added 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Lucas Baroni had 13 points in the
victory.
Junior Martinez (-92) replied with 13 points for Venezuela. Israel Blanco
finished with 10 points in the losing effort. Brazil outmuscled their opponents
on the boards 41:16 and limited Venezuela to just 37% of field goals.

Colombia U17 - Ecuador U17 58:54 Colombia U17 celebrated the fifth spot at the South American
Championship in Uruguay. They toppled Ecuador in the final day of the tournament
to gain the position. Ecuador who completed the preliminary round winless
managed to come up with quite surprising victory over Chile in the 5th-8th place
qualifying games. They also lived up to the challenge against Colombia but fell
just short at the end. The teams kept it close early in the game as Colombia had
a one-point lead into the second frame. Ecuador stayed within striking distance
and Colombia still led by a slender 1 points at the interval. Ecuador stepped on
the gas after the major break. They outgunned Colombia to accumulate a 3-point
cushion heading into the final period. But
Victor Lopez (-93) gave a needed spark for Colombia in the fourth stanza as
they eked out an exhausting victory at the end.
Victor Lopez finished with 18 points and 6 boards to pace Colombia.
Francisco Castro added 15 points and 21 boards in the win.
Diego Chachapollas (-92) fired 13 points for Ecuador. Martin Obando and
Ricardo Icaza had 10 points apiece in the loss. Colombia boasted of a huge
dominance on the glass 57:41 which proved decisive in this one.

Chile U17 - Paraguay U17 102:50 Chilean U17 National Team completed their South American Championship
campaign in style. They thrashed Paraguay to claim the seventh overall spot in
the ladder. Chile managed to leave a sour loss to Ecuador behind and got ready
for the battle with Paraguay just all right. They did not waste too much to stun
their opponents. Chilean team surprised their counterparts 22:12 in the first
frame to take a comfortable lead. Chile never loosened the grip in the second
period as they stretched the margin to as many as 17 points at the interval.
Paraguay could not change things in the third frame. Chile stayed calm and
capitalized on numerous mistakes from Paraguay to take a massive 33-point
advantage into the final term. Chile coasted in the final quarter thumping their
opponents.
Franco Morales tallied 25 points, 14 boards and 7 assists for Chile.
Francisco Pavez (-92) notched 33 points and 6 steals for the winning side.
Marcelo Vaccaro (178-G-93) had 14 points for Paraguay. Alex Emhart finished
with 10 points and 15 rebounds in defeat.
Chile outrebounded Paraguay 52:30 and forced Paraguay to 29 turnovers. Chile
sank 44% from the field to ensure the victory.

Joel Comba (198-F-92) nailed 18 points to propel Argentina into the final
game of the U17 South American Championship. The tornaments defending champions
toppled Venezuela to reach the title game. Argentina had an overwhelming
advantage in the game leading from start to finish. They scored 29 points in the
starting frame which was worth a 19-point lead into the second stanza. Argentina
continued their onslaught in the second frame. They knocked down 24 points to
pile up a massive 53:18 cushion at halftime. Venezuela did not come back to life
in the second half. Argentina eased to a 26:11 third frame success to clear off
to an unassailable advantage. They eased to the win in the final term and booked
their spot in the Final. Tomas Zanzotera fired 14 points for Argentina. Fernando
Podesta had 13 points and 9 boards in the winning case.
Jose Silvera (-92) replied with 14 points for Venezuela. Anthony Perez
provided 11 points in the loss. Venezuela will play against Brazil in the Bronze
medals game. Argentina will be challenged by hosting Uruguay later tonight.

Uruguay defeated Brazil in a dramatic overtime semifinal clash at the U17 South
American Championship. The hosts now paved their way into the championship game
where they are going to face the defending champions Argentina. Brazil will now
play in consolation final against Venezuela.
Brazil had the upper hand in the starting frame. They went on an 11:3 run to
pile up a 16:9 lead midway through the frame. Uruguay managed to clip the margin
to 5 points after ten minutes. But Uruguay responded equally in the second term.
They notched 10 straight points to grab a 35:25 advantage. Brazil got closer but
Alex Alvarez (-93) capped the first half with a three-pointer to give the
home team a 37:33 advantage at the interval.
The teams exchanged the baskets throughout the third frame and Uruguay
maintained the buffer. The home side entered the final quarter leading by 6
points. Brazil leveled things up for several times during the final term.
However Uruguay were up by 2 after free throws from Ivan Loriente with 13
seconds remaining. But
Raul Togni (184-G-92) responded with a late jumper to force the extra
period.
Alex Alvarez became the hero of the game or Uruguay as he poured in 12
points in the overtime to sink Brazil.

Ecuador youngsters posted the initial win at the U17 South American
Championship. They held off Chile in the round of games for the 5th-8th spots.
Ecuador will now take on Colombia for the 5th spot. Chile will try to gain the
7th spot when they face Paraguay later tonight.
Ecuador looked dominant in this one. Relying on a stifling defense and a pivotal
performance from
Diego Chachapollas (-92) Ecuador cruised. Ecuador limited their opponents to
10 points in the starting quarter and enjoyed a 6-point advantage at the first
break. Chile did not say die and turned the tables in the second stanza.
Francisco Pavez and
Franco Morales (179-G-92) helped Chile to sharpen offense as they outscored
Ecuador and trailed by just 4 points at halftime.
But the second half turned into a one-man show as
Diego Chachapollas stepped up for Ecuador. He unloaded 21 points in twenty
minutes to give his team a necessary boost. Ecuador accounted for 50 points in
the half leaving Chile with no chance whatsoever.
Diego Chachapollas poured in 31 points and pulled down 6 boards t lead
Ecuador. Alan Dunn came up with 12 points, while Juan Maldonado had 10 points in
the win.
Franco Morales nailed 18 points and collected 7 boards for Chile. Francisco
Pavez contributed 17 points in defeat.
Colombia U17 - Paraguay U17 61:56 Colombian U17 National Team held off Paraguay at the South American
Championship in Uruguay. They now have a chance to occupy the fifth spot in the
overall ladder if they beat Ecuador later tonight. Paraguay will play for the
7th spot against Chilean counterparts.
Colombia struggled early in the game. They accounted for just 9 points in the
opening frame allowing Paraguay to accumulate a 5-point lead after ten minutes.
But Paraguay returned the favor in the second stanza. They scored only 5 points
as Colombia grabbed a 20:19 lead at halftime. The teams adjusted in the third
quarter trading baskets. Colombia were just a bit more accurate taking a 42:40
advantage into the fourth term. Paraguay tried hard but failed to save the game
at the end.
Jorge Salazar (-94) knocked down 17 points to lead the Colombian team. Edwin
Cortez provided 16 points and 17 rebounds for the winners.

Argentina U17 National Team posted the fourth straight win at the South American
Championship. Yesterday they held off Ecuador to remain on top of Pool A.
Argentina thus secured the semifinal match-up against the second-placed team
from Group B Venezuela. Ecuador on the other hand suffered the third loss in a
row and remained at the bottom of the standings. They would have a chance to
post the first win when they face Chile for the 5th-8th spot later tonight.
Argentina looked sloppy in the first half as Ecuador stayed close. Argentina had
a huge advantage under the rim but Ecuador tried to stay calm and did not
mistake too often. Argentinean team gained just a 3-point lead after the opening
stanza. Ecuador did not allow their opponents to clear off substantially in the
second term. Argentina led by 7 points at the interval before taking off in the
second half. They thumped Ecuador 24:9 in the third frame and never looked back
en route to a comfortable success.
Matias Bortolin (-93) stepped up with 13 points and 9 rebounds for
Argentina. Juan Giaveno added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the

Alex Alvarez (-93) unloaded 32 points to propel Uruguay U17 National Team to
a decisive victory over Paraguay in the preliminary action of the South American
Championship. Uruguay and Paraguay enjoyed 1-1 records prior to the game and
needed a victory to advance into the semifinal stage. Uruguay proved the
strength and booked the place in the semifinal to continue their fight for the
qualification for Fiba Americas U18 championship to be held in 2010.
Uruguay did not waste too much jumping into an early lead. They looked
aggressive and cruised to a 19-point advantage after ten minutes. Paraguay
started to get back to life in the second frame as they slowed the hosts down.
Uruguay however managed to win the quarter building a comfortable 23-point
cushion at halftime. The second half did not chance the course of things in this
one. The teams traded baskets throughout the second half as Uruguay kept
Paraguay at safe distance. The home team drove to a vital win and made it to the
tournaments semis. Mathias Calfani had 13 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists for
Uruguay. Diego Garcia delivered 12 points in the victory.

American Championship. They completed their Pool B action with a confident win
over Bolivian counterparts. Colombia thus clinched the fourth spot in the group
and would play against Paraguay for the 5th-8th spots. Bolivia stayed winless at
the bottom of the ladder.
Bolivia looked better at the start of the game as they held their opponents to
just 6 points in the starting frame. They grabbed a 9-point lead after ten
minutes. But Colombia soon rebounded and overwhelmed Bolivia in the second term.
Francisco Castro (-92) reigned in the paint and paced Colombia to a 28:26
lead at halftime. Colombian team continued to dominate after the major break as
they cleared off to an 8-point distance with ten minutes to go. Bolivia were not
able to recover and threaten the margin. Colombia had a comfortable advantage on

Brazil U17 gained the top spot in Group B of the South American Championship.
They completed the preliminary round action with an outstanding victory against
Venezuela claiming the fourth success in a row. Brazil are now scheduled to meet
hosting Uruguay in the semifinal later today. Venezuela slipped at 3-1 record
and finished in the second position. They would face Argentina in another
semifinal clash tonight.
Brazil provided Venezuela with no chance in this one. They limited Venezuela to
8 points in the opening quarter to pile up a 14-point lead. The second frame
brought no relief for Venezuela as they accounted for 9 points to trail by 31 at
halftime. Brazil dominated in the paint and capitalized on 24 turnovers from
their opponents. Venezuela also sank woeful 14% from the field. Venezuela came
up with disastrous 6 points in the third quarter to enter the final term down by
insurmountable 47 points. Brazil never loosened the grip easing to the stunning
victory at the end.

Chile U17 - Bolivia U17 84:44 Chilean U17 National Team secured the second win at the South American
Championship yesterday. They dismantled Bolivia to climb at 2-2 record in Group
B. Bolivia suffered the third straight loss and remained at the bottom of the
ladder.
Chile dominated every facet of the encounter and started to take off in the
opening frame. They outgunned Bolivian counterparts 25:12 in the starting
quarter to build a comfortable advantage. Chile stiffened defense in the second
term and held Bolivia to only 5 points in the stanza to accumulate a confident
34-point cushion at the interval. Pavez and
Hardy Weissohn (-93) came up with 11 points each in the first half.
The onslaught continued in the third frame. Bolivia canned just 10 points as
Chile ensured an insurmountable 43-point lead with ten minutes left in the game.

Venezuelan U17 National Team celebrated the third straight win at the South
American championship in Trinidad, Uruguay. They toppled Colombian counterparts
to improve at 3-0 record in Pool B and ensured their semifinal birth. Colombia
on the other hand suffered the third straight loss at the tournament.
The game got to a slow start as the teams managed just 26 points in ten minutes.
Venezuela secured a narrow 14:12 lead into the second frame. Venezuela however
orchestrated an impressive rally in the second frame to put the game away for
good. They accounted for 28 points and enjoyed a 42:29 lead at halftime.
Venezuela wisely kept their opponents at bay in the second half. Colombia were
plagued by 28 turnovers and never climbed back into this one.
Jose Silvera (-92) fired 21 points to pace Venezuela.

slipped at 1-1 after the loss in Trinidad. The game however was not an easy ride
for Argentina. The home team entered the encounter confidently and quickly
cleared off. Balanced offensive effort helped Uruguay to keep Argentina at bay
early on. The hosts enjoyed a 21:14 lead after ten minutes of action. The tempo
decreased in the second frame as the teams played aggressive defensively. The
sides combined for just 21 points in the stanza as Uruguay maintained the lead
at 30:26.
But the things changed drastically after the major break. Argentina finally
adjusted and fired from all guns. They accounted for 24 points in the period
allowing the hosts to only 7 points. The visitors turned the deficit into a
13-point advantage with one quarter remaining. Uruguay tried to bounce back in
the final term winning it by 5 points but it was not enough to erase the
distance as Argentina secured the victory.

Paraguay U17 celebrated the initial victory at South American U17 Championship
leaving Ecuador U17 still winless. Paraguay U17 nailed 27 points in the last
period to take 73:65 victory.
Paraguay started the game better and went on a lead immediately. The team played
also well in defense taking 22:7 advantage after the first 10 minutes of the
game. After being down 24:7, Ecuador however reacted to close the game by 5
points and finish the first half down 28:23. The latter dominated the court and
did not slow down even after the break. In the third quarter Ecuador had 39:34
but did not keep the lead for good. Paraguay tied the quarter at 18:18 and
grabbed 46:41 at the end of the third period. After an offensive 27-24 in the
last period Paraguay U17 clinched the first victory in the South American U17
Championship and improved to 1-1 record. Ecuador U17 meanwhile dropped at 0-2.
Carlos Luis Vallejos (-92) led the winners with 22 points adding also 8
rebounds. Manuel Antonio Aponte ended up with 21, while Emhart Ortiz Alex
Fernando scored 12. Ricardo Icaza responded with 25 points in defeat and Diego

Brazil U17 thrashed Bolivia U17 for the third straight win in Group B of U17
South American Championship. The favorites posted first 22 points of the game
and demolished the opponent in the rest of the game as well.
The Brazilian started with a 22-0 run as the latter managed to score only a
point in the whole frame. Gabriel Ramos made a free throw at the end of the
first period for 24:1. The favorites produced another 24 points in the second
period and Bolivia was able to post 12. The first half finished 48:13 as
Gabriel Aguirre (208-C-92) netted 10 points.
In order not to slow down the top team of Group B dominated the court in the
second half as well. A 26-8 in the third period lifted them up to 74:21 as they
could celebrate their third win at that time. led by
Gabriel Aguirre, Abrao Silva Olintho Pereira and Baroni Ronchi Lucas Brazil
won also the last period 17-10 to clinch the victory in Day 3 of U17 South
American Championship.

Chile U17 edged Colombia U17 91:61 however the game was pretty tough not looking
at the score. The latter battled well and admit the loss only in the last

majority of the frame. Then the favorites pushed the tempo for good to score 30
points in the second period. As a total of the first half Chile enjoyed 47:34
advantage.
Colombia reduced the gap to 63:56 after some good baskets from Victor Lopez 17
points and Thomas Esteban Diaz. It seemed that the game would be exciting until
the last minutes, but Chile U17 had their weapon. The Chileans finished up 68:58
at the end of the third frame and demolished the opponents in the last one. In
the fourth quarter Chile made an 20-0 run to seal the winning outcome.

Uruguay welcomed the start of action in Group A of the South American U17
championship. Trinidad cheered up their favorites as Uruguay tipped off their
campaign yesterday. They took on Ecuador in the opener. Uruguay finished the
2007 contest at the third spot and entered the home competition hopeful of
improving the result.
Uruguay did not waste time to prove the dominance. They shot down Ecuador in the
starting frame and cleared off to a safe distance. The hosts reigned under the
boards and eased to a 21:8 lead after ten minutes. Ecuador struggled defensively
and conceded 36 points in the second half to trail by 29 points at halftime. The
margin grew to unassailable 42 points in the third quarter as Uruguay coasted to

points in the losing effort.
Uruguay will take on Argentina today. Ecuador will look for the initial win when

Argentina U17 - Paraguay U17 89:60
Argentina posted the first win at the U17 South American Championship that
tipped off in Uruguay these days. Argentina opened Pool A action with a
comfortable win over Paraguay.
Argentina entered the tournament as the defending champions and started to prove
the status right from the start.
They held off Paraguay in the first frame to ensure a 22:14 lead after ten
minutes. Argentina wisely kept their opponents at bay and enjoyed a 9-point
advantage at halftime. The defending champions shifted the gear after the major
break and went on a 14:0 run. They cruised to a 20+ advantage midway through the
third frame to clear off beyond reach. Argentina never slowed down and finalized
a confident opening win at the end.
Joel Comba (198-F-92) provided 18 points and 10 rebounds for Argentina.
Patricio Gullota added 17 points, while
Carlos Paredes finished with 13 points for the winners.
Carlos Luis Vallejos (-92) replied with 15 points for Paraguay.
Manuel Aponte (190-G-92) had 11 points in defeat.
Argentina are scheduled to meet with Uruguay. Paraguay will face Ecuador in the
second round. Two best teams of each group will make it to the semifinals. Three
best teams of the tournament will advance to the Fiba Americas U18 Championship.

Chile U17-Brazil U17 54:90
Brazil U17 improved to 2-0 record in Group B after the win over Chile. The
latter tried hard but lost the second game in the tournament.
It seemed that the game would be a tough one as Chile trailed only 2 points
after the end of the opening quarter. An outstanding performance by Emmanuelle
Camilo De Jesus Moreno and
Franco Morales (179-G-92) kept them in race. Brazil however used an
advantage in the second period when they produced 19-9 in the frame. Brazil made
a 13-1 run to dominate 38:26 and finish the first quarter up 40:28.
The third period became the most offensive as the teams nailed 45 points
together. Brazil grabbed another 25-20 to add to their lead. The Brazilians
continued dominating by ending the third quarter up 65:48 and a 9-0 run started
the final quarter to seal the victory. Chile managed to score only 6 points in
the last period and Brazil produced another 25. The favorites achieved another
win to improve to 2-0 record in the group.
Taddei Felipe top-scored for the winners with 25 points and 7 rebounds.
Parisotto Icaro netted 12 and Rodrigues Camilo Erick scored 9. Emmanuelle Camilo
De Jesus Moreno responded with 17 points in defeat, while
Franco Morales added 15.

Venezuela U17-Bolivia U17 76:65
Venezuela achieved the second victory at South American U17 Championship as they
rolled over Bolivia in Day 2. The latter is back to the South American U17
Championship however had to admit 76:65 loss.
The opener of Day 2 saw a really good clash between Venezuela and Bolivia.
Manuel Cuevas gave Bolivia a 9-7 advantage, but Venezuela reacted with a 7-0
run. In the first two periods Bolivia managed to score 14 points in each, while
Venezuela scored 20 and 19 respectively.
The game became tougher in the second half as Bolivia started to struggle more.
In the third period led by Tola Rios Mauricio Rodrigo and Ramos Campos Gabriel
Rodrigo the team played even basketball with the opponents. A 16-16 in the frame
gave them a chance for the last quarter, where however they tied the margin
again only in the period. With 21-21 the teams ended up the final stanza that
left Venezuela in front, 76:65.
Israel de Jesus led the winners with 13 points for the second straight win.
Abrouse Acosta,
Jose Silvera and
Leonardo Betancourt finished the night with 9 points each. Mauricio Rodrigo
Tola Rios poured in 17 points for Bolivia and Gabriel Ramos scored 15.

American U17 Championship was open by the game of Brazil U17 and Colombia U17.
Brazil, being more experienced in the continent smashed the opponent 110-60 to
take 1-0 record.
In the beginning of the game both teams stayed close until 11-6 score. The
favorites produced 11-0 run later and went on a big lead. Brazil had 27:13 at
the end of the opening frame and looked more confident in the court. Brazil
nailed 34 points in the second quarter that became the most productive for the
winners. A 34-19 in it gave them 61:32 advantage at the halftime.
Led by
Victor Lopez, Colombians tried harder in the
second half but could not match the favorites. Rossetto De Oliveira Davi and
Prado Cunha Durval Alves were the top-scorers for Brazil and remained the team
in front. The third quarter brought 24-13 for the winners that improved to 85:45
after 30 minutes of the game. It was not a big deal to finish the opener with a
win as Brazil added 25-15 in the fourth period to seal the winning outcome.
Rossetto De Oliveira Davi led the winners with 14 points, while Prado Cunha
Durval Alves nailed 13.
Raul Togni (184-G-92) delivered 11 as well as
Rodrigues Erick that also added 6 rebounds. Parisotto Icaro, Amarante Nogueira
Lucas Riva,Taddei Felipe and Vezaro Felipe each score 9 points.
Victor Lopez shined for Colombian squad with 30
points and 2 rebounds. Mc.Lean Dawkins John - Edmund and Cortes Salazar Edwin
ended up with 7 points apiece.

Venezuela edged Chile 73:65 in the second game of the South American U17
Championship. It was a tough game for the winners, however trailing 8 points
at the halftime, Venezuela grabbed the win in the opener.
The game between Venezuela and Chile became the top one of Day 1. Chile did
not mind taking the lead in the opening quarter and produced 20:17 in it. In
order not to slow down Chile kept the tempo in the game and added 16-11 in
the second period. Led by an outstanding game from
Franco Morales
(179-G-92), Chile improved to 36:28 at the halftime.
The second half however belonged to the second team of the previous South
American U17 Championship, Venezuela.The team still remembers a 55-61 loss
from Argentina in the Final and hopes to reach the top places this year as
well. Venezuela reacted in the third quarter finishing tied at 53. Right
after that the team created a 9-1 run to have a 67:59 edge with less than
two minutes left. Led by
Alexander Morillo, Anthony Joseph Perez and
Junior Jose Martinez Venezuela grabbed the win in the opener.
Alexander Morillo top-scored for the
winners with 15 points, while Anthony Joseph Perez and Junior Jose Martinez
added 11 each. Acosta La Guerre Abrouse Laromie scored 9 in a win and
Silvera Castro Jose Gregorio posted 8.
Franco Morales ended
up with 27 points for Chile, while Piero Simonetti Pereira poured in 14.
