Metropolitan Round 8: #1 Cordon is defeated by Colon

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most surprising game was the first loss of Cordon (3-1) in Montevideo on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Colon (3-1) 80-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cordon. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Colon dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Cordon's 18. They outrebounded Cordon 41-30 including 34 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Martin Trelles (187-96) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and American Lenny Daniel (203-87, college: CSUN) who added 18 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Forward Octavio Medina (195-96) responded with 14 points and 6 assists. Colon have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Cordon and Stockolmo. Colon is looking forward to face L.Borges (#6) in Montevideo in the next round. Cordon's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Stockolmo.
Metropolitan top team - Lagomar (4-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat tenth ranked Tabare (1-4) in Montevideo 76-71. The winners were led by point guard Martin Perdomo (178-95) who scored that evening 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Agustin Da Costa supported him with 18 points. Even 25 points and 4 steals by point guard Facundo Medina (190-94) did not help to save the game for Tabare. Tabare's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lagomar have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Tabare at the other side dropped to the bottom place with four games lost. They share the position with Miramar. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
7th ranked Sayago (2-3) was outscored at home by ninth ranked Danubio (2-3) with the biggest margin this round 85-63 on Thursday night. The best player for the winners was Martin Chervo who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds. Danubio's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brian Silva produced 12 points and 4 assists for the hosts. Danubio moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Sayago and Verdirrojo. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 8 Miramar lost to Verdirrojo on the opponent's court 78-84.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 25 points and 10 rebounds by Martin Aguilera of Verdirrojo.
