LUB Round 17: Penarol beats Aguada in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Penarol (#7) and Aguada (#3). Penarol (9-7) won against visiting Aguada (10-7) 83-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Aguada. The best player for the winners was American power forward Charles Thomas (202-1986, college: Arkansas) who scored 27 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Rodney Green (197-1988, college: La Salle) chipped in 25 points and 4 assists. Naturalized Argentinian power forward Agustin Zuvich (201-1995) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the guests. Penarol moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Trouville and Goes. Aguada at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. Penarol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Aguada's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Malvin.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Hebraica (11-6) against eleventh ranked Urunday (6-10) on Monday night. Visiting Hebraica was crushed by Urunday in Montevideo 89-63. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Hebraica. Forward Rodrigo Brause (194-1995) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Nicolas Catala contributed with 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. American power forward Franklin Hassell (203-1988, college: ODU) answered with 12 points and 7 rebounds for Hebraica. Hebraica's coach Leonardo Zylberstein gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Urunday moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Defensor and Urupan. Hebraica at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. Urunday's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Trouville.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Goes (9-7) against twelfth ranked Defensor (6-10) on Friday night. Visiting Goes were defeated by Defensor in a tough game in Montevideo 80-86. Dion Wright stepped up and scored 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Windi Graterol responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. Defensor moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Urunday and Urupan. Goes lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Trouville and Penarol. Defensor's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Olimpia.

Other games of round 17 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Trouville defeated Malvin in Montevideo 98-97. L.Borges was beaten by Defensor at home 64-82. Nacional lost to Urupan on the opponent's court 74-84. Aguada managed to outperform Olimpia in a home game 89-77. Malvin was rolled over Hebraica on the road 67-91.
The best stats of 17th round was 12 points and 15 rebounds by Kiril Wachsmann of Malvin.



Malvin - Trouville 97-98

There was no surprise in Montevideo where 9th ranked Malvin (7-10) was edged by seventh ranked Trouville (9-7) 98-97 on Monday. American power forward Tavrion Dawson (202-1996, college: CSUN, agency: One Motive Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Dwayne Davis (196-1989, college: Southern Miss) chipped in 27 points. Trouville's coach Marcelo Signorelli used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican forward Ivan Aska (201-1990, college: Murray St., agency: 011 Sports) responded with 23 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Rohndell Goodwin (195-1991, college: Chaminade, agency: Players Group) scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Trouville and four Malvin players scored in double figures. Trouville moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Goes and Penarol. Malvin lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with L.Borges. There was a surprise result in Montevideo where twelfth ranked Defensor (6-10) defeated higher ranked L.Borges (7-10) 82-64 on Tuesday. Defensor dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to L.Borges' 22. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American-Jamaican Quintrell Thomas (203-1990, college: UNLV) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and American forward Dion Wright (201-1993, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Five Defensor players scored in double figures. Naturalized Italian Leandro Morales (186-1980, college: Texas A&M, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 24 points and 4 assists and point guard Federico Ambrosoni (183-1999) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defensor moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Urunday and Urupan. There was an upset when 4th placed Nacional (9-8) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Urupan (6-10) 84-74 on Tuesday. Urupan dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Nacional's 26 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Point guard Mateo Sarni (185-1998) stepped up and scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American guard Donald Robinson (192-1989, college: WVU Tech) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Urupan players scored in double figures. American Brandon Nazione (202-1994, college: EMU, agency: Players Group) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Argentinian guard Selem Safar (191-1987) scored 15 points. Urupan moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Defensor and Urunday. Loser Nacional dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost.
