Malik Curry gets MVP of the Week award for Uruguayan LUB

American Malik Curry (184-G-1999) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Defensor Sporting Club Montevideo and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 13.
The 24-year old guard had the game-high 29 points adding six rebounds and five assists for Defensor in his team's victory, helping them to beat Trouville (#8, 4-6) 92-77. Defensor maintains the 3rd position in Uruguayan LUB. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Defensor will need more victories to improve their 7-4 record. In the team's last game Curry had a remarkable 56.3% from 2-point range. He turned to be Defensor's top player in his first season with the team. West Virginia University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Curry is in league's top in points (4th best: 21.7ppg) and assists (7th best: 4.7apg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young Argentinian forward Franco Giorgetti (203-F-1992) of league's best team Nacional De Futbol Montevideo. Giorgetti impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Nacional lost that game 77-97 to the lower-ranked Penarol (#5, 6-2). Nacional managed to keep the same 1st spot in the standings. It was just his team's 2nd loss this season, while they won 9 other games. Giorgetti is a newcomer at Nacional and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Terrence Thompson (203-F-1994) of Urupan de Pando (#11). Thompson scored 23 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). Despite Thompson's great performance Urupan lost 90-99 to the higher-ranked Bigua (#7, 6-7). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Urupan not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 8 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Thompson could try to bring Urupan's a little bit higher in the standings. Thompson has individually a great season in Uruguay. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.6rpg (6th best).
