Liga Femenina Round 9 (Regular Season): Lagomar is defeated by D.Sporting in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: D.Sporting (#3) and Lagomar (#8). D.Sporting (7-2) crushed visiting Lagomar (3-6) by 23 points 88-65. D.Sporting forced 25 Lagomar turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Lagomar's players. Point guard Josefina Zeballos (172-2003) stepped up and scored 24 points for the winners and forward Krystal Cordara (169-2002) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Carina Laborde (170-2004) with 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. D.Sporting maintains third place with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Malvin. Lagomar at the other side keeps the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with Juventud.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: Yale (#2) and 25 de Agosto (#6). 25 de Agosto was crushed at home by 22 points 53-75 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of 25 de Agosto. Argentinian point guard Julieta Sienra (161-2003) nailed 28 points and 5 steals for the winning side and Florencia Carretero accounted for 10 points and 9 rebounds. Argentinian guard Rocio Bereilh (165-2001) came up with 21 points and 8 rebounds for 25 de Agosto in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Yale (8-1) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place behind leader Malvin. 25 de Agosto at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost.

The best player for the winners was Carolina Fernandez who scored 19 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Rocio Garcia who recorded 11 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Malvin. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-0 record. Tabare lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with eight games lost.

In the last two games of round 9 winless Hebraica was destroyed by Urunday on the opponent's court 62-33. Juventud managed to outperform Remeros in a home game 72-59.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals by Constanza Lopez of Juventud.

Malvin - Tabare 94-37

Liga Femenina top team - Malvin (9-0) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Tabare (1-8) in Montevideo 94-37. Malvin dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Tabare's 32. Malvin forced 38 Tabare turnovers and outrebounded them 49-22 including a 24-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was guard Carolina Fernandez (186-2003) who scored 19 points and 5 assists. Center Selena Medrick (177-2002) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Rocio Garcia who recorded 11 points and forward Matilde Talamas (-2006) added 4 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Malvin. Urunday - Hebraica 62-33

Very expected game in Montevideo where bottom-ranked Hebraica (0-8) was crushed by sixth ranked Urunday (5-5) 62-33 on Friday. Urunday held Hebraica to an opponent 17.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Urunday forced 22 Hebraica turnovers. The best player for the winners was center Abril Mieres (170-2000) who scored 6 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Mia Nilo (-2008) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Urunday's coach felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Sofia Fernandez (154-2007) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and center Agostina Nogueira (-2004) added 3 points and 18 rebounds respectively. Urunday moved-up to fifth place. Hebraica lost their eighth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost.

Juventud - Remeros 72-59

There was a small surprise in Las Piedras where ninth ranked Juventud (3-6) defeated 7th ranked Remeros (3-5) 72-59 on Wednesday. Juventud dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Remeros' 32. Juventud forced 31 Remeros turnovers. The best player for the winners was Paraguayan guard Constanza Lopez (-2006) who scored 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Sabrina Molina (180-1998) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Ornella Bacchini (-1989, agency: BIG) who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists and Valeria Barrett (175-2000) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Juventud moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Lagomar. Loser Remeros keep the seventh position with five games lost.
