The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Juventud (7-1) in Montevideo on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by eighth ranked Lagomar (6-2) 77-48. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Juventud. Lagomar held Juventud to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 42.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Lagomar forced 23 Juventud turnovers and outrebounded them 48-36 including 34 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Carina Laborde (170-2004) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Argentinian guard Melina Marcial (168-1998) contributed with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Lagomar's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sabrina Molina (180-1998) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 18 rebounds for Juventud. Lagomar maintains eighth position with 6-2 record. Juventud at the other side keeps the seventh place with one game lost.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Montevideo: Malvin (#1) and Yale (#2). Malvin (8-1) won against visiting Yale (7-2) 69-56. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Yale. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Argentinian forward Carla Miculka (174-1993) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds (made all of her ten free throws !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and Carolina Fernandez chipped in 19 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side Argentinian Agustina Bazan (174-2003) responded with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Malvin have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-1 record. Yale at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Aguada.
Bottom-ranked Urunday is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their tenth consecutive match to fifth ranked Remeros (2-8) 68-54 on Sunday evening. Ornela Bacchini notched 18 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort. Even 18 points and 6 rebounds by Gabriela Piriz did not help to save the game for Urunday. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Remeros maintains fifth position with 2-8 record. Loser Urunday still closes the standings with ten games lost.
