LFB Round 5 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Malvin's defeat of Urunday

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Malvin (#2) and Urunday (#6). Urunday was crushed at home by 39 points 48-87 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Malvin dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Urunday's 20. Malvin forced 23 Urunday turnovers and outrebounded them 55-34 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Malvin looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Carolina Fernandez (186-2003) orchestrated the victory by scoring 9 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Carmela Fontes (188-2005, college: Cal Poly) contributed with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Argentinian guard Melina Marcial (168-1998) answered with 20 points and 4 assists for Urunday. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Malvin maintains second place with 3-1 record having just three points less than leader D.Sporting, which they share with Tabare. Urunday at the other side keeps the sixth position with three games lost.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: D.Sporting (#1) and Lagomar (#7). D.Sporting (5-0) crushed visiting Lagomar (1-3) by 20 points 82-62. Swingman Agustina Oyarzabal (175-2007) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 assists for the winners and Sofia Herrera chipped in 9 points and 12 rebounds. Argentinian swingman Rocio Sagardoy (176-2000) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated D.Sporting have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Lagomar lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with three games lost.
Bottom-ranked 25 de Agosto is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to fifth ranked Aguada (3-2) 71-61 on Wednesday evening. Luzmila Varzi nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Aguada's coach Gino Alderete used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Catalina Quintana came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for 25 de Agosto in the defeat. Aguada moved-up to fourth place. 25 de Agosto lost their fourth game in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost.

In the last game of round 5 Cordon was beaten by Tabare on the road 70-56.

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: D.Sporting (#1) and Lagomar (#7). D.Sporting (5-0) crushed visiting Lagomar (1-3) by 20 points 82-62. D.Sporting forced 23 Lagomar turnovers and outrebounded them 50-26 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. D.Sporting players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Lagomar's players. Swingman Agustina Oyarzabal (175-2007) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 assists for the winners and Sofia Herrera (179-2005) chipped in 9 points and 12 rebounds. Argentinian swingman Rocio Sagardoy (176-2000) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Catalina Tano (174-2003) scored 26 points and 8 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. D.Sporting have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Tabare - Cordon 70-56

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Tabare (3-1) beat at home 8th ranked Cordon (1-4) 70-56 on Wednesday. Tabare held Cordon to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.9 percent accuracy of the winners. Tabare forced 28 Cordon turnovers. Strangely Cordon outrebounded Tabare 48-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tabare made 7 blocks. Argentinian point guard Abril Ramirez (167-2000, agency: BIG) nailed 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winning side and forward Krystal Cordara (169-2002) accounted for 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Tabare players scored in double figures. Argentinian center Martina Schunk (181-2005) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Virginia Peralta (172-2006, agency: BIG) added 15 points respectively for Cordon in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Tabare. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Malvin.
