LFB Round 1 (Second Stage): Yale lose to Malvin

The Second Stage in Liga Femenina just started. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Yale recorded a loss in Montevideo on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by Malvin 75-53. Malvin outrebounded Yale 49-25 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Argentinian forward Carla Miculka (174-1993) fired 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. point guard Fernanda Midaglia (174-1995, college: Cent.Florida) chipped in 8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Malvin's coach Diego Rivas felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian guard Paola Alegre (162-2001) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds for lost side.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Montevideo: Urunday and Cordon. Urunday crushed visiting Cordon by 25 points 80-55. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Emilia Borges (184-2002) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds. Melina Marcial contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Argentinian center Martina Schunk (181-2005) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for Cordon. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Montevideo: D.Sporting and Lagomar. Lagomar was defeated at home 52-67 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Camila Suarez stepped up and scored 28 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals (made all of her eight free throws) for the winners. D.Sporting's coach Fabian Boscardin used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Catalina Tano responded with 18 points and 6 steals.

In the last game of round 1 Tabare crushed 25 de Agosto in a road game 80-52.

Urunday - Cordon 80-55

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Montevideo: Urunday and Cordon. Urunday crushed visiting Cordon by 25 points 80-55. Urunday forced 24 Cordon turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Emilia Borges (184-2002) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds. Argentinian guard Melina Marcial (168-1998) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Argentinian center Martina Schunk (181-2005) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Virginia Peralta (172-2006, agency: BIG) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cordon. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

There was no surprise in Montevideo where 25 de Agosto was crushed by Tabare 80-52 on Sunday. Tabare dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to 25 de Agosto's 12. Tabare forced 30 25 de Agosto turnovers and outrebounded them 46-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. Tabare looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Argentinian point guard Abril Ramirez (167-2000, agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 4 points, 8 rebounds, 13 assists and 5 steals for the winners and guard Luciana Franca (172-2009) chipped in 21 points. At the losing side forward Ileana Duarte (-2005) responded with 4 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Catalina Quintana (162-2000) scored 9 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
